Want Romance? Be Like the Sexy Women in K-Pop Songs

Pop songs these days are full of confidently sexual women and women who yell at other women to be sexier. The confident 'bad girls' have risen to prominence. On top of this, these confident, sexy women are good at dating.

Women in pop songs are not embarrassed by showing off their bodily charm and even urge their partners to progress quickly with physical affection. Whereas before the trend was gradual seduction, these days it's explicit provocation. Girl's Day pulling off their straps as if taking off their clothes in the song 'Expect' was relatively mild. Dal Shabet goes further to rip their skirts off to show their hot pants, stuck tightly on their thighs. In their second single, 'Female President,' Girl's Day shake their bottoms ferociously and rustle their tails.

There are poor, innocent girl groups? Even the feminine girl group Hello Venus sang, 'If you want to get to know me, come (home) and let's have some tea' in their latest song 'Want Some Tea?' Out of context, the lyrics 'Nights alone are so long. I want to get to know you better. Give me until morning,' seems like something out of an R-rated movie. In the music video, they poison a handsome man, creating a story of a 'staged rebellion'. If you think about it, it's pretty spicy.

You don't have to see sexy girl groups to know how they are. Dal Shabet sings in their new song, 'Look At My Legs': 'Everyday you hold my hands, is that enough for you, you don't even kiss me. When are you going to make progress'. They also say, 'Look at my legs, not my eyes.' The previous coyness from women who felt uncomfortable by the male gaze on their bodies has completely flipped 180 degrees.

The title of Girl's Day's new single is 'Female President.' Though it sounds like they would sing about women's rights, in fact they sing that women should kiss first. The rap goes, 'Our president is now a woman, why so serious? Why not? Will we be arrested for kissing first?' brilliantly tying both the current political situation and the skinship problem.

They are not even concerned about the men. Gorgeous women self-proclaim that they're gorgeous. CL shows her self-love in the song 'Bad Girl', singing, 'My nose is the best, I never say sorry, fakeness is a given, my brilliant brain'. Lee Hyori expresses her disregard for men's attention in 'Bad Girls': 'A woman who shines even when thrown spiteful remarks, a woman who knows but pretends not to.'

Usually these strong women would scream 'overthrow men' and did away with romance. But these days, these 'strong women' don't even give up love. Instead they love shamelessly well. If Lee Hyori sings, 'Harsh success, pure love, kiss as if you can't resist,' CL sings, 'Smiling eyes are the basics, my tears are my weapon, my smile is like fire as it burns you,' proclaiming that romance is up to them.

Of course, there are victims. Is it coincidence? In the world of hip hop, normally full of tough men, a new group has emerged, that of innocent men who shed tears for bad girls.

But even their attitudes are strange. It seems like they're cursing, but at the same time not able to resist.

In Bumkey's recent hit, 'Crazy Romance,' he sings about the helplessness of the man who can't stop the obviously unfaithful woman: 'You lie next to me like a lover, say you and I will be together only until tomorrow morning.' The lyrics 'Your body that touched mine, asking the clueless guy when will I see you tomorrow,' evokes a scene from a TV drama. In the end the song wraps up with, 'I know this isn't right but I can't help falling more and more.'

Dyanmic Duo has also been captured by bad girls. Still at the top of the charts on the 2nd, their new single 'Snake' openly compares women to snakes. In the old days, this may have been viewed as women's discrimination, but today the attitude is more of 'Yes, women can be that bad,' and 'That's kind of hot.'

Dynamic Duo complain: 'I am not your spring, why do you always get coffee or alcohol and leave,' but at the same time singing, 'Why did you catch me if you're not going to swallow me? You treat my submissive mind like a yoyo, rolling it to the floor,' claiming defeat. It all comes to the man to wait for text messages or the woman who shows up abruptly in the middle of the night.

Pop songs tend to capture different customs faster than movies or TV shows. Because their audience is people in their teens-30's, only the songs that match their values and experiences become hits. So the reversal of roles in men and women in pop songs can be seen as a reflection of youth dating customs.

The reversal effect will likely continue in the future. Female singers who are cute or innocent are flopping one after another, and the tough, animal-like men who used to reign music programs are meeting with failure. Are you having trouble dating? Perhaps you should examine whether you're dating like the outdated lyrics of the past.
