Cedar Point Accident Caused by Boat Malfunction: Seven Injured at Water Park as Boat Flips

A Cedar Point accident from a boat malfunction injured seven people Friday on a water ride called Shoot the Rapids at an Ohio amusement park. The Cedar Point accident flipped the vehicle over and threw riders back and injured them. The ride was shut down temporarily after the Cedar Point accident.

A Cedar Point accident happened as the weekend began, frightening people in the park and fans of the water ride Shoot the Rapids. The boat on the ride roll back down the hill after it stopped ascending, it flipped over and seriously injured seven people in the boat at the time.

Park officials said the staff at Cedar Point staff immediately shut down the ride to help the injured riders. Witnesses said that the accident occurred on the very first hill in the water boat ride. Cedar Point ride operators and a medical team arrived on the scene and helped pull people out of the water. One of the riders was reported to be trapped under the flipped boat for several minutes.

Although not confirmed, the boat is said to have first flipped on its side and then all the way over. The passengers were all belted in and unable to leave their seats without help. Ride operators, park police, and visitors jumped into the water to help them.

A witness to the accident told the Sandusky Register “We jumped in and helped them get out,” If we didn’t help, I don’t even know what would have happened.”

The Shoot the Rapids ride at Cedar Point will be closed until park officials determine the cause of the boat malfunction that led to the flipped boat.
