'We Got Married' as K-Variety Crack: Your Favorite Saturday WGM Couples

Here's what I think is most interesting about 'We Got Married'; yes, it's a virtual marriage and it could very well be scripted from A to Z, but at the end of the day, chemistry is chemistry and no amount of preparation and structure can manufacture that.

The artists that you put on the show, whether they are talented actors or not, are still people. They can develop feelings of their own and can very much try to form a relationship outside of the show. This has already been proven time and time again by many of the virtual couples who have participated on We Got Married, and it has been MARVELOUS.

I love watching two people connect even if they were thrust into a show with ten cameras on them and edited for the public's entertainment. I would watch unedited footage of this show if I ever got the chance to, and I would only blink once because this is fascinating.

There is a reason why We Got Married has been on the air for 4 to 5 years, and it's because couples, fake or not, are living the married life in a way that projects actual struggles of a married couple. If you haven't been tuning in to We Got Married, then you might think that it's all very simple, that couples are recorded and scene together and tell everyone that they're married and that is that.

I believe, and the WGM PDs confirm that these couples aren't all put together by chance. Their compatibilities have some weight and production places together the couples who are best suited for each other on paper, hoping that they are similarly compatible in real life.  But the majority of the stars that are paired don't really speak full conversations or have the time to interact, so during their first meeting there's a lot of awkward introductions and eyelash batting, and it is everything in this world that I would like to live in, okay, it's phenomenal.

The couples take off from their initial meeting, which is during the honeymoon. They get to know each other through this time, in a hotel room in a romantic island, and afterwards are whisked back to South Korea where they are assigned a house where they have to live in as a married couple. And throughout all of this, the produces provide the couples with challenges to complete, each challenge working towards strengthening their bond as a couple and permitting them a glimpse into the married life without any actual commitment (apart from whatever they signed up from on the contract, I suppose).

While all of this is happening, the MCs of the show are to watch the couples' growth and activity, commenting on their interactions to better help the audience understand what's happening, or give them some sort of idea as to what how they view the actions of the couple. Each half of the couple is also interviewed about the show and events that transpired to offer their points of view. The producers sometimes have the other half know what information was just divulged if they find it relevant.

Since this is a show that has existed in what seems like forever, I can't say that I have the fairest judgment on couple favorites. But one of the first couples that I ever watched and fell in love with on this show was former Kpop idol, recording artist and entertainment artist Hwang Bo and Hyun Joong from SS501.

Like most couples, they were given a couple name, "Ssangchu" due to Hyunjoong's weird pronunciation of the word during their honeymoon. What I loved about the Ssangchu couple was the fact that they were not forcing themselves to milk a fake relationship. This is when I realized the script of this show could only do so much.

Hwang Bo and Hyunjoong were beyond comical together, though. From the costumes to the silliness, to the tearful goodbye, they were excellent to watch. I especially enjoyed how up beat Hwang Bo was throughout the episodes, and how she seemed to have genuinely cared for Hyunjoong, maybe not in a romantic sense, but more of a younger brother one? I mean, she flew all the way to Japan just to clean his room, cook him and his members a meal, and surprise him. If that isn't love, I don't know what is.

I know that Victoria and Nichkhun were incredibly popular when they were on the show, and I could tell why from the few episodes that I've seen of them. Where Hwang Bo and Hyungjoong were more playful, Nichkhun and Victoria had a genuinely mutual liking between them that was obvious in all of their episodes. I have seen Nichkhun in a dating show prior to this one, where he was assigned to date a fan? And though the flirting methods are pretty standard, I suppose for the time that he was allotted in We Got Married, he showed more of a liking to Victoria than he did on that show.

And of course, for this new season, I am routing for Taemin and Naeun and so hard, I could just push their heads together and make them kiss already. Here is another reason why I adore this show so much; because of the number of couples who have already taken part in it, you have a great deal of comparisons to make. Though there are people who are casted that are already acquainted (Kim Won Joon and Park So Hyun have been friends for eighteen years when they were put together) or are already a couple (Jo Jung Chi and Jung In).

The moment Taemin leaned in before introducing himself made me scream in frustration because if anyone other than a famous, pretty idol like Lee Taemin did that to me, I would whip out my pepper spray and get to spraying. That's out of line, man. In any case, it was successfully awkward, and now the show goes on with many pretty smiles and handholding that makes both parties blush and I highly suggest that you get in on this.

Since the show's first broadcast, many spin offs have come about as well as a Global Edition.  This allows fans to have a good chance to develop 'ships' or 'OTPs' from past and present seasons and even editions.  After all, 'We Got Married' is probably one of the only times you can actually see your favorite K-pop idols dating.
