Lady Gaga `Applause’ Released; Issues Pop Music Emergency After Single Is Hacked; Can’t Live Without Applause or Royalties (Video)

Lady Gaga issued a “pop music emergency” after her upcoming single was leaked over the internet this weekend. Lady Gaga’s “Applause” was put into fast motion after her Little Monsters started an anti-piracy campaign online.

Lady Gaga’s "Applause" was officially released today in an effort to stem the tide of possible unofficial versions that were leaked over the weekend.

Lady Gaga wasn’t going to release the song for another week. Lady Gaga’s “Applause” was set to drop on Aug. 19. But Lady Gaga took it on herself to release the track.

Lady Gaga took to Twitter to issue the a "pop music emergency." She tweeted,"Due to hackers, an abundance of low/high quality leaks... we issue this pop music emergency... monsters spread the word./ My new single 'Applause' is out today and can be heard on United States radio in 15 minutes. International radio to follow."

Before Lady Gaga released the single she blasted the hackers and critics with a series of tweets. One of her anti-hacking tweets was "Dont focus on ANY blogger criticism. I have been a producer/songwriter/musician for over 10 years. Trust the artist bloggers are not critics."

Lady Gaga wasn’t the only pop star who had a pop music emergency this weekend. The new single from Katy Perry’s upcoming fourth album, “Prism,” was also leaked over the weekend. Katy Perry’s single “Roar” was then rushed online so she, too, didn’t miss the royalties that an unofficial version would rob from her.

Lady Gaga is set to perform “Applause” when she does the MTV Video Music Awards show on August 25. “Applause” will appear on her upcoming "ARTPOP" album. “Artpop” is set to drop on Nov. 11 or as Lady Gaga likes to put it, 11/11.
