Every summer there is one mega hit song that conquers the music charts, but this year this solo phenomenon has not appeared.

Summer has always been the time for mega hits to get released. In the past summers there have been mega summer hits such as Park Myung Soo's 'Naengmyun,' Miss A's 'Bad Girl Good Girl,' and Psy's 'Gangnam Style.' But this year it seems as if songs from all genres are equally receiving love.

Even though hip hop is extremely popular, San E's publicity gained through Brand New Music was most unexpected. His song 'Story of Someone I Know' is currently number one on music site Melon's charts, ever since August 3. It was unexpected to see this kind of big comeback, especially during this time when so many other artists are looking to be this summer's mega hit.

R&B is also extremely popular. Im Jung Hee's new song 'Love Is,' which has been hitting the top spots on music charts, is currently ranked number 1 on MNet. This song is a hip-hop based pop-R&B song that talks about the remorse and regret that comes after a breakup. Im Jung Hee's unique and captivating voice blend harmoniously with the emotion-stimulating acoustic guitar and bass, and has been showing great potential in this heat wave of summer music.

Mnet's 'Superstar K5' is also playing a part in this summer wave of music. Lee Juk's 'I Didn't Know That Time' is currently ranked number 1 on Bugs. This song, which was released in 2003, is currently in Mnet's top 10 and in Melon's top 30, and despite being an older song, is very popular right now.

And of course, idol groups' popularities are still and ever hot. 2NE1 and f(x) are holding their ground along with 4Minute and SISTAR. On July 29 f(x) new song 'Rum Pum Pum' is at the top of music charts even now, and has been number 1 on various music programs such as KBS 'Music Bank' and SBS 'Inkigayo.' Although they've sung difficult songs in the past, this new singl,e which features a marching rhythm, is easy enough to become addicting, and has many people singing along with it.

Likewise, 2NE1's new song 'Do You Love Me,' which was released on August 7, has had an all kill on music charts. It has swept the summer music market off its feet with its bright and exciting charm, unlike 2NE1's previously charismatic songs. 2NE1 has been much more active on MBC and KBS programs, and is even appearing on various entertainment programs, raising expectations for many fans.

Male group rivalry is also very hot right now. BEAST and Infinite have released smash hits, and EXO's 'Growl' and B.A.P's 'Badman' also made a hit. ZE:A, who has become more well-known thanks to Park Hyungsik's activity in the entertainment industry, has also released a new song called 'Ghost of the Wind.'
