Kang Seung Yoon Opens Up About Why He Chose Record Label YG Entertainment: They Insisted That He Got Better

South Korean singer Kang Seung Yoon knew record label YG Entertainment was the right place for him when they told the 19-year-old singer that he needed work.

On Wednesday, Kang explained to the host of of the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) radio show "Yoo In Na's Turn the Volume Up" that YG Entertainment, whose artist roster includes K-pop giants Psy and Big Bang, knew that he needed to hone his skills before heading back to the recording studio.

And he knew they were right.

"I have a good feel about my talents," Kang said. "I never thought I should debut immediately, that's why I decided to go back [to working on my skills]."

The singer claims that the fact that YG Entertainment demanded that he hone is craft more before releasing any more singles, impressed him deeply.

They were the only company to make such an insistence.

"At the time I was a hot new artist on the scene, but YG was the only company that said, 'If you come to us you will have to be a trainee.'" Kang recalled.

"I knew that this company would help me grow."

After placing fourth in the televised singing competition "Superstar K2" Kang signed with YG Entertainment in January of 2011.

Before signing with the K-pop powerhouse label, the singer had released three singles, 2010's "I'll Write You A Letter" and "Instinctively" and "You Are Heaven" in 2011.

After sharpening his skills for two years at YG's famous trainee program, Kang released his first single "It Rains" in July.

Earlier this month, the singer, along with girl group 2NE1, became the first YG Entertainment artist to perform on the KBS television show "Music Bank" in three years.

YG executives denied there was any animosity behind the drought of performances by artists in their roster on "Music Bank," in a press release on Sunday, a week after the show featuring Kang Seung Yoon and 2NE1 aired.

"It is the first time in the years since YG artists made an appearance on Music Bank in 2010," read the press release on the label's website.

"Until now YG and KBS publicly announced that there are is no friction between the two, but many assumed [this was] false when no YG artists performed on KBS's music show."

Kang performed his new single "WILD AND YOUNG," on the show with music by YG's house producer Teddy and lyrics by Big Bang rapper G-Dragon.

His newest single "STEALER" was released on Wednesday.
