2013 US Gymnastics Championships Day 1 Results [VIDEOS]: Kyla Ross Trails Simone Biles, Mckayla Maroney Competes On Floor And Vault

Day 1 of the 2013 US Gymnastics Championships came to a close last night, and a few frontrunners have risen in Kyla Ross, Simone Biles, with McKayla Maroney showing her flare on floor and vault.

Currently, first-year senior Simone Biles is beating 2012 Olympic gold medalist Kyla Ross by .75 of a point, showing an impressively difficult floor and beam routine, and the iconic Amanar vault made famous by McKayla Maroney.

In total, Simone Biles sits with 60.5 points, while Kyla Ross is at 59.75.

Kyla Ross, an ever consistent gymnast, is making her case as an all-around contender for her work on beam and uneven bars. And while her bars routine was typically excellent, she was unsteady on floor and beam, both of which would need added difficulty to be competitive at Worlds this season.

"I felt pretty good after vault," admits Kyla Ross in an interview after Day 1 at the 2013 US Gymnastics Championships. "Going into beam and floor, I don't really know what happened. Maybe I had a little bit of the jitters."

Still, check out this stuck double-twisting Yurchenko. Form and execution is where Kyla Ross is at.

And despite the massive talent in gymnasts like Simone Biles, Lexie Priessman, Brenna Dowell, and Kennedy Baker, Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney of the Fierce Five remain the center of everyone's minds.

During Day 1 of the 2013 US Gymnastics Championships, McKayla Maroney showcased her trademark Amanar (albeit with several big hops), and an upgraded floor routine. As the second of the Fierce Five to come back to competition, she is making a big claim to returning to 2016 Rio Olympics.
