Sunmi's "24 Hours" Music Video Review: Yay or Nay?

Wow, is my initial reaction to ex-Wonder Girls member, Sunmi's new solo comeback video. As most of you know, Sunmi used to be a member of the Wonder Girls, JY Park's most powerful girl group to date. JY Park made the mistake of shipping them off to America to take over the American music industry. Unfortunately, America didn't embrace the girls and years into their stay in America, Sunmi made the shocking announcement that she had plans to leave the group and move back to Korea to concentrate on her studies. Wonderfuls cried in agony and no one had any idea of her whereabouts until JY Park shocked once again with the announcement that Sunmi would be going solo and her comeback was just around the corner.

Sunmi has done away with her cutie-pie 4D personality image and has taken on a whole different persona, look, and attitude. The single, "24 Hours" is a sexy song with enough sleek dance moves that'll make even the most innocent Wonderfuls blush. It's definitely a far cry away from her bubble-pop days when she was bopping around in pigtails and poofy tutus. Now that Sunmi is older, more seasoned, and mature, her music is reflecting just that. Her once long cutesy locks are long gone and replaced with a light purplish short bob cut that makes Sunmi look older and more sensual. Sunmi's outfits in the video are subtly sexy, always showing enough skin but covering just the right amount to keep the boys drooling and the girls jealous.

I like the video and I don't mind the sexy new route JYPE has taken her on. It's not fresh necessarily in the K-pop realm, but it's new for Sunmi and as a fan of hers, I like the new direction. Is the song, look, and comeback different from any other thing I've seen in the past few years or from JYPE? No, but it's a good transition for Sunmi and her new found image as a solo star. I've always believed that any of the members of the group could go solo and each have a successful career. Each always had their own identity and voice, including Sunmi who always remained in the background but found her ground as the quirky, adorable, and incredibly likeable member of the crew. Now that JY Park has put all his chips in for her comeback, I have no doubt that Sunmi will soon give other solo ladies a run for their money, but can she become a superstar? Can her personality carry her through as a solo star and can she get used to not standing with 4 other girls by her side? We'll just have to wait and see.

What are your thoughts for Sunmi's future? Is the video a YAY or NAY?
