Review: Former Wonder Girls Singer Sunmi Turns Up The Heat With Her Electro-Infused Hit '24 Hours' [VIDEO]

With a daring new sound and a sizzling music video to match, former Wonder Girls singer Sunmi is poised for a major take over of the K-pop charts with her new single "24 Hours."

The song is not your average piece of pop. Clocking in at just under three and a half minutes, "24 Hours" goes places, including to an orchestral tango section that seems to come out of nowhere.

The majority of the song features a powerful electro sound that is a nod to 1980s pioneers Depeche Mode as well as more recent dance artists like xx.

The intricate keyboard lines provide the ideal counterpoint for Sunmi steamy vocals.

There is also a resemblance to some of Britney Spears's more nasty material, after she dropped any pretense that she actually was "that innocent."

If you're trying to trace the original source of hooky female vocals with a distorted second vocal repeating the phrases, when it comes to who created that sound, as the saying goes "it's Britney bitch."

But Sunmi isn't just channeling the production tricks of pop's wildest mom, she also has the understated power and general attitude that makes the best Britney Spears songs so hard to resist.

And at the bottom of it all is a beat that really comes on strong.

The snare snaps imply another giant in the world of electro pop production--Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails.

Yet all of these musical details will most likely be ignored thanks to the sizzling music video Sunmi shot for 24 Hours."

A representative from Sunmi's label told the website allkpop that the other Wonder Girls aided in both the creative direction and choreography for the video.

Whatever the contribution was, it worked.

With cinematic references ranging from "Dirty Dancing" to "X-Men," Sunmi achieves the challenging feat in this age of overstimulation in releasing a video that is sexy, visually interesting and original.

With moves that find her falling into bed with her male dance partner, there are some startling sequences in the "24 Hours" video.

And while the video is a home run, the song is equally impressive.

Sunmi is sure to stir things up with this late summer release.
