David Beckham ‘Too Famous’ For Underwear Calvin Klein Ad With Russian Model Natalia Vodianova; Replaced by Freddie Ljungberg

David Beckham was "too famous" for a Calvin Klein underwear campaign.

David Beckham, the famous soccer star from the UK, was originally intended to star on a 2006 Calvin Klein underwear advertisement with Russian model Natalia Vodianova, according to Cover Media, via Yahoo! News.

However, Beckham's team put limitations on the planned campaign.

"The guy we used for those ads with Natalia was an athlete. I had wanted David Beckham, and we had discussions with David's people and they said, 'You can have him for the rest of the world, but you can't have the UK because he's too popular," Calvin revealed to Interview magazine.

"I said, 'We do business in the UK. What am I supposed to do there? Use someone else?' So that was a no. They weren't ready. So we got this other guy instead."

Freddie Ljungberg, another soccer player who at the time played for Arsenal, replaced Beckham in the Calvin Klein underwear ad, and starred opposite Vodianova.

According to Cover Media, the sexy campaign saw the pair in various poses lying on a bed together and was shot in black and white.

But luckily we've seen plenty of underwear advertisements featuring Beckham, who has since gone on to star in underwear ads for Armani, as well as launch his own underwear line for H&M.

Other stars to front the iconic CK ads include Kate Moss and Mark Wahlberg, though Klein revealed to Vogue magazine that the two did not get along during the shoot.

"I didn't want anyone else. But he was trouble," Klein said of Wahlberg. "Oh, my god. He and Kate couldn't stand each other."

"She ended up being really great, though," he added about Moss. "But the earlier stuff was part of that whole opposite wave."
