Song In Hwa Arrested For Allegedly Using Marijuana: Comedian Reportedly First Tried The Drug On U.S. Trip

Comedian and actress Song In Hwa was arrested in the South Korean city of Incheon on Wednesday.

Local police had reportedly been investigating the star's alleged use of the drug for several months, have accused Song of smoking marijuana on two occasions between June and July, according to the website allkpop.

Song's older sister is also reportedly under investigation for using the drug.

According to Incheon Police, Song, who also goes by the name Oh Yi Na, first tried experimenting with marijuana on a trip to the US less than three months ago.

The television star, who turned 25 last month, then allegedly smuggled the pot back into South Korea and smoked the remainder of her supply.

A drug test using Song's hair follicles reportedly came back positive.

Beginning her career in 2005 as an actress, Song appeared in the film "My Boss, My Teacher" the following year. She also had roles in 2007's "Shim's Family" and "I Am Happy" in 2008.

The star also had a long career in television, most recently appearing in the 2012 romantic TV series "Panda And Hedgehog" and the 2011 sitcom "Bolder By The Day."

Earlier this year, the actress changed course, and made the full-time push into comedy.

Song was offered a contract as a comedian by the Korean Broadcasting System television network, earlier this year.

Using marijuana can carry a fine of up to five years in prison and a fine of $40,000 in South Korea, according to the website 360kpopinfo.

Yet penalties will still be enforced when authorities are able to prove the guilty party used the drug outside the country, as South Korean rapper Crown J (real name Kim Kye Hoon) discovered, when was arrested after he returned to his native country for using pot in a home he owns in Atlanta, Ga, back in 2010.

Seoul Central District Court sentenced the rapper to eight years in prison and 80 months of community service, according to the Manila Bulletin.

"As a celebrity, he has the attention of the public," the court's verdict read.

"For this reason, he must take special responsibility for his conduct. By using drugs, he will influence young people negatively and set a bad example. He disappointed the public, and also created needless misunderstandings for the court, all of which deserves strict punishment."

The rapper claimed he only used pot once or twice, according to the Korea Times.
