Katy Perry’s `Roar’ Is Heard Loud And Clear on Billboard; Topples Robin Thicke’s `Blurred Lines’ Off The Top (Video)

Katy Perry's 'Roar' knocked Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” off the top of the charts. Katy Perry’s new single “Roar” did its time at number 2, it spent two weeks in second place, before the “California Girl” finally toppled the controversial song “Blurred Lines”, which was cited by Marvin Gaye’s family and Funkadelic’s songwriting team for copyright infringement, from its twelve-week run at the top of the charts.

Katy Perry’s “Roar” music video debuts tomorrow which will boost Katy Perry’s new single even more. The video for Katy Perry’s “Roar” will see Katy Perry as a Jungle Girl.

Katy Perry’s “Roar” has become the “I Kissed a Girl” singer’s eighth single to hit No. 1 hit on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart. Katy Perry’s “Roar,” an empowerment anthem had the power to end Robin Thicke’s twelve-week reign atop the chart with “Blurred Lines.”

Katy Perry’s first single off her upcoming “Prism” album, “Roar,” has spent three straight weeks at the top of the Digital Songs chart. Katy Perry’s “Roar” sold 557,000 copies in its first week. In its second week, Katy Perry’s “Roar” sold another 392,000 copies. “Roar” finally passed the one million mark this week, rising 14 percent to 448,000 downloads. Katy Perry’s new single reaped the benefit of increased radio airplay and her closing performance under the Brooklyn Bridge for the MTV VMAs.

There have only been two other songs by female artists to pass 400,000 downloads in two weeks. Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” and Taylor Swift’s “I Knew You Were Trouble” both moved quickly through the charts. Katy Perry is one of just two artists to nab seven number one singles since January 2010. “Roar” is Katy Perry’s seventh No. 1 of the decade. The only other singer to hit that milestone is Katy Perry’s sometime-BFF, Rihanna.

“Blurred Lines” inched down to the No. 2 spot on the Hot 100. Eminem’s “Berzerk” went nuts to hit number three, knocking Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” dipped from to No. 4 in spite of her MTV VMAs performance.
