Miley Cyrus VMAs 2013 performance has generated a lot of controversy. Some celebrities, like Selena Gomez have defended it. Miley Cyrus management loved it. Anna Wintour, Vogue's editor-in-chief didn't.

An insider told Hollywood News Daily, "Anna found the whole thing distasteful. She decided, based on Miley's performance, to take the cover in a different direction."

Miley Cyrus said the VMAs 2013 performance shows that she's growing up and trying to leave squeaky clean Disney Channel image behnd. Anna Wintour, who is 63, didn’t think the flesh-toned nude look and twerking was a good match for a Vogue cover girl.

Miley Cyrus sat for the cover which was supposed to be on the December issue.

In an exclusive interview with MTV Miley Cyrus said "Me and Robin (Thicke) the whole time said, 'You know, we're about the make history right now. I don't pay attention to the negative because I've seen this play out so many times. Madonna's done it. Britney's done it. Every VMA performance, that's when you're looking for; you're wanting to make history."

Madonna can still Vogue. Miley, not so much.
