Kangta Discusses His Drunken Bender After H.O.T. Break Up On 'Radio Star': Singer Recalls Waking Up On The Sidewalk

When the five-member K-pop group H.O.T. disbanded in 2001, band member Kangta attempted to drown his troubles in a pool of liquor.

The band-related bender led to one embarassing interaction with H.O.T. fans, Kangta recalled on Tuesday's episode of the South Korean variety show "Golden Fishery: Radio Star."

"I was going through some tough times in the aftermath of H.O.T's disbandment," Kangta said.

"There were a lot of friction between the members and fans. Instead of going back to my home in [the Seoul neighborhood of Yangjae-dong] Yangjae-dong, I ended up in [the neighborhood of] Junggye-dong and got myself dead drunk. I was still in formal wear, and my hair was even done. As I opened my eyes the next morning, I found myself on the road, still in formal wear, and sitting on the sidewalk."

Fortunately for the singer, whose real name is Ahn Chil Hyun, several H.O.T. fans on their way to school spotted him. One even helped Kangta hail a taxi.

"As I turned my head, some recognized me and shouted, 'Kangta!' But this was followed by some of them saying, 'how could Kangta be here?'" the former H.O.T. member recalled.

"I then decided to sprawl myself on the floor, to make everyone think that I was just a drunkard. But more and more people started gathering around me. A H.O.T. fan then appeared and shoved me inside a taxi."

"Radio Star" host and Super Junior band member Cho Kyuhyun also asked Kangta about a different rumor.

"I heard that in the past, you had gone home in a drunken state once," Kyuhyun said.

"You then shouted to your fans who were outside your home, 'I've received so much from you, but all I have to give you right now are these,' before throwing dried peppers at them."

Although Kangta claims not to remember the incident, he admitted there was some truth to the rumor.

"There was a plot of land in my yard, where we grew dry peppers, tomatoes, and lettuce," he said.

"I also heard that I had thrown dry peppers to my fans outside my home, but I don't really remember it happening. My mom had said that all of those were really precious, and I thought of it that way at that time, so I just threw them to my fans."
