Miley Cyrus Twerking Video Music Awards Performance Deemed As 'Racist' Is 'Demeaning' To Her Black Dancers According To Singer's Stylist

After Miley Cyrus' twerking performance at the MTV Video Music Awards to "We Can't Stop" and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" was deemed as racist, the singer's stylist Lisa Katnic is fighting against the criticism.

Following Cyrus' VMAs show, onlookers like Jody Rosen blamed the former Disney star for “annexing working-class black ‘ratchet’ culture” in an effort to re-brand her image.

Rosen may have been referring to the twerking black dancers, better known as the L.A. Bakers, that accompanied Cyrus during her performance.

Katnic believes the racist claim was a straight up insult to the Bakers.

“That's so demeaning to [the dancers] for somebody to say that,” Katnic said. “Here they are doing something that's awesome and fun, and [people] shit on it.”

She added that Cyrus and the Bakers are actually friends.

“Somebody said that it was racist for a white girl to have three black girls as props onstage to benefit herself,” said Katnic, according to "Oh No They Didn't." “It's misinformed because [those dancers, the] L.A. Bakers are in the [“We Can’t Stop”] video. At this point, Miley and the L.A. Bakers are friends, and Amazon Ashley? They're friends in real life. They go out to lunch.”

Speaking of Amazon Ashley, Katnic wished the camera got more shots of the dancer twerking.

“Didn’t really get to see [seven-foot-tall burlesque dancer] Amazon Ashley’s butt twerking — which is an amazing sight,” Katnic said. “I feel bad for people who had to watch the performance on-camera. It was a spectacle in person.”
