Perpetrator Responsible for Spreading Malicious Rumors About IU Apologizes in Heartfelt Letter

One netizen admitted to being responsible for spreading rumors about IU, and uploaded an apology letter on an online fan community site. There's speculation whether to all of this is true.

On September 26th, a lengthy letter was uploaded onto IU's fan community site with the title "IU Chirashi Rumor." (Chirashi is a group of anonymous gossipers.) The author of this letter wrote, "I'm the person who uploaded those false words onto the online community site. I'm the sinner who brought IU a lot of suffering and pain."

The author continued, "Last May, I foolishly wrote an article on an internet community site, and wrote false rumors about IU. Although the article was malicious in nature, I never thought that it would spread like wildfire. I'm in my mid-20s, I've been married for about 2 years, and I work at a mid-level job. Although I'm like the scum in a toenail compared to IU, I was really very surprised by this situation. IU's fans might think that I'm shedding mere crocodile tears, but I'm in a really tough predicament."

Near the end, the author wrote, "Lastly I want to really give a heartfelt apology to Lee Ji Eun (IU), and ask that she have leniency on me just this once, for the sake of my family. I'm not an evil person looking to harm anyone like everyone else is saying; I'm just a stupid fool. I really beg of you that you look into your great sea-like generosity and please forgive this pitiful head of a family" and apologized what appears to be sincerely.

However, IU's fans are suspicious. They're contemplating whether this letter is sincere or not.

On September 23rd, LOEN Entertainment producer Cho Young Chul wrote on his Twitter, "The perpetrator who spread IU's wedding rumors and other false accusations has been caught, and he has confessed to his crime." He continued, "He is also being investigated for his malicious hate comments. From now on, any type of defamation of character of our artists will be dealt with firmly."

The rumors of IU's wedding and pregnancy started in May. Both IU and her agency LOEN Entertainment filed a lawsuit in Seoul Central District Court, and the perpetrator was caught after 4 months of investigation.
