Oricon’s Top Choice: ‘No Other K-Pop Star Can Exceed TVXQ’

Even though there are many K-pop stars advancing into Japan, TVXQ isn’t showing any signs of coming down from their reign as ‘King.’

Japan Oricon recently released a ranking of Korean artists 2011 and TVXQ came in first place. Also Oricon picked “Why? (Keep Your Head Down)” as the Best K-Pop Single/Album of 2011.

TVXQ resumed their activities in Japan last year. Their single “Why (Keep Your Head Down)” released on January 26, sold over 230,000 copies in its first week, it also topped the Oricon Weekly and Monthly chart as well.

The group emerged as the first foreign artist to have the 1st and 2nd record of highest first week album sales. They have marked their ninth #1 single on the Oricon Weekly Chart, breaking the record for most number of top singles on the Oricon Chart by a foreign artist.

With the monumental success of TVXQ,many Korean artists have entered Japan, however based on local cultural adaption, mobilizing fans, and their recognition in the local market it seems the consensus is that there are no other Korean singers to surpass TVXQ.

TVXQ is currently on tour of ‘TVXQ Live Tour 2012 – Tone’ over total of 26 concerts in 11 cities. The Tokyo Dome concerts will be held from April 14-16, while Osaka Kyocera Dome concerts will be from April 21-23. The total attendants of the tour are expected to be approximately 550,000 fans.
