JYP Preparing an Appeal for Plagiarism Case

JYP feels unjust regarding the court’s rule of stating that JYP is partly guilty in the plagiarism case of “Someday.”

JYP Entertainment released a statement on February 10, “Our company is unconvinced by the court’s decision in “Someday” plagiarism case. We are preparing to make an appeal.”

JYPE shared, “Park Jin Young hadn’t heard the song, “To My Man,” until after he finished composing “Someday.” The chords that the plaintiff Kim Shin Il asserts to be his own composition was first used by Park Jin Young when he wrote g.o.d’s ‘0%’ and again when producing Rain’s song ‘Move On.’ The intro melody the plaintiff claims to be his original composition had already been used while producing Park Ji Yoon’s song “Homecoming.”

JYP continued on, “Park Jin Young has used his own chords and melodies to create new songs. It simply doesn’t make sense for someone to create a song from the main theme song of a popular mainstream drama. Who would do something that would cause such huge controversy? We haven’t.”

The court decided on February 10 that Park Jin Young infringed copyrights to Kim Shin Il song’s however as the entire song was not plagiarized but only the chorus portion, the jury decided for Park Jin Young to pay only about $20,000 USD to the plaintiff.
