K-Pop Rewind: BoA "ID; Peace B"

In the world of K-Pop, there is hardly a name that is as recognizable or respected as BoA.

Kwon Boa, who on stage goes simply by BoA, made her debut in the Korean music industry in 2000 at the age of 13 and has been a mainstay ever since.

After tagging along with her older brother to an audition for SM Entertainment, BoA was noticed by the scouts for her fresh, young talent and was offered a contract right then and there. After convincing her parents (with the help of her brother), BoA joined the company and trained for two years.

Finally, in August 2000, she was ready to make her debut. BoA released her first album ID; Peace B along with her first single of the same name.

Not unsurprisingly, the single and album fared moderately well with the song reaching a peak of number 10 in the music charts and the album going on to sell over 160,000 copies making it the 59th best-selling album in South Korea that year.

The music video for "ID; Peace B" was a sort of introduction to the young new singer. In the beginning, BoA is seen in the studio and rehearsing the song, practicing the choreography, and filming the music video.

A strong visual, the video matches her youthful enthusiasm, it goes on to show off her dancing and singing talents.

One look at "ID; Peace B" and it is clear to see what the SM talent scouts saw in BoA.

In May of the following year, BoA expanded into the Japanese market with a Japanese-language version of "ID; Peace B" and a new music video. The MV shows the young singer flipping through the various TV stations and finding herself featured in the various programs and commercials - a hint at her rapidly increasing worldwide fame.

BoA, of course has gone on to release multi-lingual music and has recorded an English-language album, BoA, as well as several more in Japanese. She has even recorded songs in Chinese in addition to the majority in her native Korean.

With seven Korean studio albums and three EPs, in addition to another seven in Japan, BoA is one of the most prolific K-Pop soloists. She has contributed to the writing and composition of 49 songs to date and also self-produced her seventh Japanese album IDENTITY.
