South Korean band Busker Busker has been called a lot of things since their rapid ascent to the top of the K-pop charts after placing second on the reality television singing competition "Superstar K3," in 2011, but funky is probably not one of them.

Yet with it's thumping backbeat and an undulating bassline that recalls the modern dance floor pop of the French group Phoenix, "Your Lips," the sixth song on the new Busker Busker album, is about as funky as this group is probably going to get.

And that's too bad.

In treading into dance music territory, Busker Busker turns in what could be their most solid performance to date on "Your Lips," currently the number four song on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100.

The writing is solid and original with harmony vocals that recall classic 1970s pop powerhouses like Hall & Oates or Supertramp, while maintaining a distinctly Korean sonic sensibility.

The band sounds relaxed and there is a more solid groove than anything we've heard from Busker Busker so far.

Known for being rebels when it comes to conforming to the rigorous expectations of the K-pop music industry, the band's music has been surprisingly tame.

The formula has clearly worked for the band. They currently hold eight of the top 10 songs on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100, including the top four songs.

Yet, now that the group appears to be calling the shots with the world (or at least the South Korean music scene) at their feet, it would be exciting to see them let loose with more songs like "Your Lips."

To hear the three members of Busker Busker lay into more dance grooves like this one, or even fool around with some more driving rock songs (electric guitars?) could allow the band to showcase a less restrained sound.

What separates successful pop artists from the greats is the ability of the latter to use fame to their advantage creatively.

Only time will tell if that's the plan for Busker Busker.
