IU Promises To Be A Better Daughter In Radio Interview: 'From Now On, I Will Sing More Songs That My Mother Would Like'

Of all her thousands of fans, there is one person who K-pop singer IU is still aiming to impress--her mother.

On Wednesday, during an interview on Park Kyung Lim's radio show, the 20-year-old singer admitted to missing her mom recently, who she still lives with.

"[My mom] went to China for work," IU said. "Even if she leaves the house for just a week, it becomes cold from the lack of [her] warmth."

The singer, whose real name is Lee Ji Eun quickly shifted gears from pining for her mother's presence to hoping her mom will enjoy life as an independent woman.

"Now that I can look after myself, I wish she could live her life not as a mother but as a woman in a pretty and lovely way," said the singer.

"She must feel lonely because my younger brother went to study abroad so I will play the role of a son, as well.  I wish my mother would enjoy life fully as a woman who becomes more beautiful and has no worries."

IU even promised to keep her mother in mind while pursuing her musical career.

"From now on, I will sing more songs that my mother would like," IU said.

But the successful K-pop solo artist admitted that there is one area she wished her mom was a bit less independent minded, her job.

The singer's mother, who runs a wholesale accessory business, refuses to live off IU's success, instead she competes with her famous offspring for financial supremacy.

"She works because she doesn't want to lose to me," IU said.

"She said she wants to appear as IU's mother once she earns and has a lot of money.  That is why she does not tell people around her that her daughter is IU, even now."

The singer's third full-length album, "Modern Times," was released on Oct. 7.
