Going Solo in K-pop: Best Solo Pursuits of All Time (Part 1)

Big Bang's Taeyang has finally put it in stone that he will be making his comeback solo on November 1, 2013. Finally, finally, finally. Taeyang's comeback got me thinking of my favorite solo debuts of all time so let's take a look at some of my favorites.

Any time G-Dragon or Taeyang announce a comeback, adrenaline pumps through my veins and I have an excitement flow through me like no other. When these two members first announced they were going solo, I never had a doubt that they would make their YG boss anything less than proud.

G-Dragon's debut solo album, "Heartbreaker" back in 2009 was one of my favorite albums of that year. "Heartbreaker" went on to becoming one of the most successful albums of the year and got him the "Album of the Year" at the Mnet Asian Music Awards. His single, "Heartbreaker" was the song and video that really put him on the map. Check it out here:

Taeyang can do no wrong in my eyes. He can release the most horrible song known to man and I will still love him for his humility, skill, and swagger. Fortunately for me, Taeyang has yet to release anything terrible. Remember his debut single, "Only Look At Me"? Remember how glorious that single was? That song and video definitely let the world know that Taeyang was successful in a group and as a solo singer.

HyunA isn't the most talented girl on the block but she has a natural sex appeal that appeals to everyone. When she decided to go solo, she took no chances. She amped up the controversy and sexiness and released her first solo single, "Change". Watch here:

JaeJoong could release a song about pigeons and he would still be a worldwide phenomena. While he's done a number of duets and OSTs on his own, it wasn't until this year that the singer released his first solo mini album called "I/MINE". The rock album scored on the charts and iTunes and gave us a hugely differently perspective on the singer that was loved by all.

Let's be serious Kim Hyun Joong never needed SS501 and he knows it too. Kim debuted as a solo artist with his first mini album, "Break Down" which shot through the roof in sales. His second album, "Lucky" debuted at #5 on Billboard's World Chart.
