"The Commitment" Is a Movie Devoted to TOP's Fangirls

Actor Choi Seung Hyun (Aka Big Bang's TOP) is an amazing actor that has an amazing presence regardless of where he performs. He is one of the few elite actors that can take over a movie as the sole protagonist. However, the overall story line of the movie leaves much to be desired.

Without trying to be demeaning, "The Commitment" appears to be a movie created almost solely for TOP's fan girls. Anyone who watches the movie will be mesmerized by his acting, regardless of your previous opinion of the actor.

The plot revolves around a boy from North Korea who is sent to South Korea as a spy in order to save his little sister. The main character, Dae Ho (with the alias "Myung Hoon"), needs to save two girls - his sister, Hae In, and his friend who happens to be his sister's namesake. Dae Ho is a character that many people will find hard to relate to but grow to like throughout the movie. He is strong and charming.

The main character is similar to Won Bin's performance on "The Man from Nowhere". He is really similar to that character who left his home and became a warrior to save the life of a girl that he knew. However, TOP's own brand of charm refines the character and produces an original, brand new character that breaks away from that mold.

In the movie, the main character is completely knowledgeable and is able to answer any kind of trivia due to his training in North Korea. He amazes his teacher and fellow students with this knowledge. When he is discovered as a spy by his friend Hae In, he is unexpectedly cute. His sometimes expressionless face and thoughtful eyes are eye candy for his fangirls.

The action in the movie is epic. It's an obvious fantasy involving high school teenagers fighting like martial artists. It's unrealistic, but at the end of the day, all the attention is given to TOP by showcasing him as the knight in the shining armor.

However, the criticism toward this movie is obvious - it moves too slow and too loosely despite the epic action scenes. The editing leaves much to be desired, and the rhythm and the flow of the movie seems off-kilter. This messes up the flow of the movie and neutralizes even great acting of the veteran supporting actors.

It'll be interesting to see if TOP's charm alone can elevate the movie to a blockbuster status.
