Sherlock Holds Hands With Moriarty: Benedict Cumberbatch And Andrew Scott Celebrate Royal National Theatre With Judi Dench, Helen Mirren And More!

"Sherlock" season 3 may be awaiting its release devoid of Moriarty, but fans got a rare tender moment between Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott during a recent performance at the Royal National Theatre.

Last weekend, the Royal National Theatre celebrated its 50th year as one of United Kingdom's most prominent publicly funded theatre companies. To help celebrate its birthday, prominent British actors like Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott joined a cast of 100 actors for a two-hour performance of some of the Theatre's highlights.

This "50 Years On Stage" event featured both "Sherlock" stars performing to key pieces throughout theatre history, including Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

Other prominent actors who joined Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott included Dame Judi Dench of the "James Bond" series, and Helen Mirren.

After the performance, Benedict Cumberbatch and Andrew Scott were even spotted holding hands. What a twist!

Meanwhile, fans are gushing at the upcoming release of "Sherlock" season 3, which has a January 19 air date for PBS.

Recently, actress Amanda Abbington confirmed that she will indeed be playing Mary Morsten in "Sherlock" season 3.

"We were at [writer/co-showrunner] Mark Gatiss's house when [season two, episode two] 'The Hounds Of Baskerville' first came on the telly. Afterwards they went into the kitchen and were sitting talking about the next series," said Abbington to The Scotsman.

"I went in and sat with them. It had been mooted that I would be in it, might have a little part in it. They were talking about who might play Mary and I was like, 'So, who are you thinking of?' and they said 'You'... I got very emotional because it just seemed so amazing, just such a gift."
