Walt Disney Pictures Kicks Off 27th AFI Fest With The U.S. Premiere Of Saving Mr. Banks At The Historic TCL Chinese Theatre

After the world premiere of Walt Disney's Saving Mr. Banks at the closing of the BFI London Film Festival last month, now the much talked about movie kicks off AFI Fest on Thursday for its U.S. premiere, which is due to be released in theatres nationwide on December 20.

Walt Disney's Saving Mr. Banks is one of the last competitors for the Oscars this year, its U.S. premiere last Thursday finally marks its worth in the event  this year.

However, Tom Hanks, one of the film's stars will also be promoting another movie, "Captain Phillips," one that brought in positive reviews, in the upcoming Oscars. Nonetheless, his portrayal as Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks plays a smaller part compared to his "Captain Phillips" movie.

Hanks' was however making an effort to downplay his role in "Savings Mr. Banks," during an interview with him outside the TCL Chinese Theatre dubbing the movie as "so much Emma's thing." The award-winning actor was of course referring to his co-actor, Emma Thompson, playing the role of "Mary Poppins" author P.L. Travers - the anxious writer refuses to sell the rights of her famous book to Disney for two decades.

"It's kind of like there's a CliffsNotes that everybody understands about Walt Disney, so I'm a little ahead of the game," as told by Hanks to The Times at "Saving Mr. Banks" premiere. "I don't have to explain an awful lot. If you've got to have two movies come out like this, this is a better one-two punch than some other things could be."

The drama-comedy revolves throughout the comical relations involving Walt Disney, played by two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, the movie tycoon who was trying struggled for 20 years to buy the "Mary Poppins" rights and P.L. Travers, played by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson, the intelligent uptight British novelist who wrote "Mary Poppins."

Walt Disney's Saving Mr. Banks is a movie that the whole family can enjoy, it can both make you laugh and make you cry.
