Twilight's Doll Baby Gave Cast Nightmares; Renesme was Called Chuckesme After Another Famous Scary Doll (Video)

"Twilight" wasn't a scary vampire movie. It was a romantic vampire film. That didn't stop the producers from throwing in some serious creepiness. In the extras on the new Twilight DVD, the cast says there were scarier things than vampires and werewolves that kept them up at night. That Twilight doll was so scary the producers had to tone it down, not for the audience. For the actors. Twilight which starred Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner wasn't going after thrills and chills.

The Doll that played the baby was that thing. Dolls are scary. Kids who are on a horror jags watch them intently, waiting for them to turn their heads or move their eyes. According to the extras on the DVD/Blu-ray edition of Twilight Forever: The Compete Saga, the teen vampire romance that brought Kristen Stewart to the public eye and saved Robert Pattinson from his Harry Potter demise, had a chance to throw some real scares at the audience, but it gave the Twilight actors the creeps. A doll they nicknamed Chuckesmee was pulled from the film because it gave the actors nightmares.

The creepy doll played Renesmee, Edward and Bella's adorable half-human/half-vampire bouncing baby girl in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2.  Wyck Godrey, who produced the Twilight series called it "one of the most grotesque animatronic babies ever to not be seen on film." What a thing to say about a baby. For the film, the producers covered up the creepiness with digital effects. Yes, they used digital effects to tone it down. They obviously never read Stephen King's Dance Macabre, a bible for horror, vampire and science fiction writers, which advises to always go for the scare. Even if it's just the cheap gross out.

That's something the makers of the Chucky series know. Renesmee was nicknamed Chuckesmee after the lead doll in the Child's Play movies. Child's Play turns 25 this week and the last installment, Curse of Chucky, went straight to DVD. Chucky is voiced by one of the great character actors of all time, Brad Dourif, who played B-b-b-billie in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It was written and directed by Don Mancini, who created it with David Kirchner.
