TLC AMA Performance [watch video]: Did Lil’ Mama Perform A Great Job In Replacing Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes For Waterfalls Presentation?

TLC AMA performance brings back the audience of American Music Awards to the 90's. Rozonda "Chili" Thomas and Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins were joined by Lil' Mama on the stage of Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, November 24 to perform their hit single Waterfalls.

Lil' Mama recently played Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes in the group's VH1 biopic. Lopes was killed tragically in a Honduran car accident in 2002.

The mega popular hit "Waterfalls" made its debut in the music industry 18 years ago, where it propelled up to the top of the charts in 1995. The single is best remembered for its music video that talked about a number of social issues including the illegal drug trade and the HIV/AIDS.

TLC took the stage wearing ethereal white ensembles, the audience roared in excitement as they have come to realize that the group's performance in AMA will be their hit sing "Waterfalls."

"Waterfalls" helped TLC receive two AMA nominations in 1996, they lost to Boyz II Men in both class though. The girl group made its first performance in the American Music Awards in 1993.

The trio comprised by Chili, T-Boz and Lil' Mama finished AMA's performance by paying tribute to Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, whose picture was seen on the giant screen behind the performers.

The performance of TLC on Sunday's AMA comes after the October 2013 release of VH1 CrazySexyCool biopic, where Lil' Mama portrayed Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and for the female rapper being in the biopic was a dream come true:

"TLC has helped me to know that as a musician I can talk about anything; that there are no barriers, and that you can be yourself. That's what I love about them," she revealed in Ebony on October.

"Left Eye in particular helped me to stay on top of my A game," she claimed. "She's one of the best female MCs that I've heard. Her lyrical content was up there with the MC Lytes, the Lauryn Hills and Missy Elliotts of the world. She helped me to understand that if I'm going to go in and talk about something, [I have to] be poetic, be expressive and do it in a way that the average person can't."
