2AM Harmoniously Returns To K-Pop With The Mini Album 'NOCTURNE'

Balladeers 2AM have hit a high note with the release of their third mini album NOCTURNE. The group which is known for their strong vocals and power ballads, venture a bit outside of their comfort zone on NOCTURNE. It is apparent that the vocal skills of the group has evolved over time to develop more complexity. 2AM made their debut in 2008 and has had apt opportunity to establish the identity of each vocalist.

On the track Regret, 2AM's Changmin and Jo Kwon have standout vocals, which are joined by Jinwoon and Seulong to create pitch perfect harmony. The members of 2AM each have voices suited to ballads, however, they are afforded the opportunity to branch out beyond this niche on NOCTURNE. While Regret is morose, it is the only track on the mini album that maintains that sentimentality.

The song Only You is more upbeat while showcasing barbershop quartet style harmonization and breakdowns. Only You is reminiscent of nineties K-Pop and R&B, which makes this one of the standout tracks in regard to the evolution of 2AM. To An Angel is also more uptempo than the songs that 2AM is known for and is a solid pop song. You're Prettier The More I See You is very jazzy, while maintaining the strong points of 2AM's vocal abilities.

2AM will highlight the beauty of NOCTURNE with their Christmas concerts, which will make a stop in Los Angeles at the Club Nokia Theater on December 15th. Their performances will undoubtedly highlight and encapsulate the vocal complexities demonstrated on NOCTURNE. Although, NOCTURNE is not specifically a holiday album, it is definitely one that should make a K-Pop fan's holiday wish list.
