Kanye West Changes Sneakers; Trades in his Nikes For Adidas; 'I'm a Performance Athlete"

Kanye West, already part of the Kimye brand with Kim Kardashian, plans to Be "the Tupac of product" as he unlaces himself from Nike and slips on his Adidas.

Speculation has been hitting the sports footwear world for months, but Kanye West has now confirmed that his partnership with Nike sneakers is done. Kanye will now be designing athletic shoes for Adidas. West has been complaining  that corporate and fashion-world power-brokers have not been taking him seriously. Kim Kardashian's future husband can't get them to partner up with him.

Kanye explained why he's leaving Nike for their main rival, Adidas, to Angie Martinez on Hot 97. West says he's not convinced Nike is pushing his Air Yeezy sneakers hard enough. Kanye says Nike didn't take the fashion release seriously. West also says that they were refusing to pay him royalties because he's not a professional athlete.

Kanye West said "Michael Jordan has 5%, that business is $2 billion. He makes a $100 million dollars a year off of 5% royalties. Nike told me we can't give you royalties because you're not a professional athlete. I told them, 'I go to the Garden and play one-on-no-one. I'm a performance athlete.'"

Kanye says he still loves Nike, but now that he and Kim Kardashian have a daughter, North West, he has to provide for his family. Kanye promises that he's on his way to becoming "the Tupac of product."  He also plans to be bigger than Walmart.

Kanye West's upcoming collaboration with Nike, the Air Yeezy II "Red Octobers," has been hit by snags and delays.

Kanye West told Hot 97′s The Angie Martinez "[Nike] said, ok cool, we're gonna give you a bigger sandbox to play in. We're gonna give you this amount right here to design, and two collections a year, and 30 skews - that's the amount of items that you have. Would that make you happy, Kanye? And I said, well I need royalties. It's not even like I have a joint venture. At least give me some royalties. ... Did I really ANYTHING? YES! Did I really EVERYTHING. 100,000 percent. I'm 100,000 percent at all times. It's people that work in offices trying to tell me how to think, when I got a better perspective. I live in Paris."

West said "So the old me, without a daughter, would have taken the Nike deal because I just love Nikes so much. But the new me, with a daughter, takes the adidas deal because I have royalties and I have to provide for my family."
