K-Pop Crossover: Sistar's Hyolyn Reflects On Her 2013 MAMA Duet With Stevie Wonder At 'Love And Hate' Q&A

There are few artists in the history of modern music with a resume as impressive as Stevie Wonder.

Scoring his first number one hit at the age of 13, Wonder went on to achieve over 30 US top ten hits, 10 of them number ones.

He has 22 Grammy Awards and has sold over 100 million albums.

The albums Wonder recorded during his classic 1970s period, albums like "Talking Book" and "Songs in the Key of Life" represent some of the best of the legendary record label Motown's storied catalog.

On Tuesday, at a press conference at Seoul's Ilchi Art Hall for her debut solo album "Love and Hate," Hyolyn of the K-pop girl group Sistar opened up about her experience of performing with the music legend at Friday's 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) in Hong Kong.

"On the stage, I saw that Stevie Wonder sings with so much happiness," Hyolyn told the publication. "I used him as a model and tried to sing with happiness as well."

The pair, along with Chinese pop singer Aaron Kwok, performed Wonder's 1984 hit "I Just Called To Say I Love You."

Hyolyn, who also spells her name Hyorin, recalled her reaction when she found out she would be performing with the R&B icon at MAMA 2013.

"When I heard that I would be performing with Stevie Wonder, my mind drew a blank and I felt like I was floating in air," she said.

"I just couldn't believe it. I wondered how something like this could happen to me. I was really nervous but anticipated it a lot as well."

The Sistar singer said that after the news that she was hitting the MAMA stage with Wonder, she was more popular than ever as everyone from former vocal coaches to former aspiring idols she had met in her early days coming out of the woodwork.

"After the news about me performing with Stevie Wonder went out, a lot of people called me," Hyolyn said. "It was the most I've ever been contacted before."

Hyolyn's album "Love & Hate" was released on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
