Kim 'Xia' Junsu Of JYJ Explains Why His Role In The Upcoming Musical 'December' Is Different From Anything He's Done Before

Starting this month, JYJ fans in Seoul will have the opportunity to see band member Kim "Xia" Junsu in an intimate theater setting.

Junsu will star in the musical "December," at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from December 16 to January 29.

Although the JYJ singer is also an experienced stage actor with parts in professional productions of "Mozart!," "Tears of Heaven" and "Elizabeth," on his resume, Junsu says his role in "December" is something the audience hasn't seen before.

"My character in ['December'], Jiwook, is quite different compared to my previous roles," he told eNEWS at a rehearsal on Friday for the new production.

"In previous musicals, I took on the roles of rather abstract characters doing unrealistic things, like living in an Austrian palace. But this time, I will act out a character that I can relate to. It took me a while to adjust to the change, but now I think I will be able to bring the character to life more realistically than before."

"I have set high expectations for myself and am looking forward to this musical," Junsu added.

"December" is a love story told over the course of 20 years. The romance reportedly begins in 1992 in Seoul between two students staying abroad with a "homestay" family.

Homestay programs allow students studying abroad the chance to rent a room from a local family to get more of a sense of the local culture.

And speaking of tourism, Junsu's recent endeavors haven't been restricted to the performing arts.

Earlier this month, the news publication the Star reported that the JYJ singer has invested $1.2 million in an 80,000 square foot hotel on the South Korean vacation spot Jejudo Island.

Junsu's 65-room hotel, which will reportedly be run by his father, will include a restaurant, spa and swimming pool, when it opens in March.

Junsu, who released his second solo album "Incredible" in July, has some special appearances planned for fans at his hotel, according to Star reporter Julie Jackson.

"[Junsu] has stated that he intends to host a number of K-pop star-filled events including autograph sessions, b-boy dance performances and even shows for local Korean bands," Jackson wrote.
