Benedict Cumberbatch Can’t Get A Girlfriend? ‘Sherlock’ Star Says In Interview ‘Perceptions’ Caused By Fame Makes Dating, Meeting Women ‘Harder’

Why can't 37-year-old Benedict Cumberbatch find a girlfriend, even though he's been voted the sexiest movie star in an Empire poll? The "Sherlock" star says in a new interview that being famous makes it "harder" to meet women due to uncontrollable preconceptions.

"It is harder [meeting women], because people think they know more about you than they actually do. And you can't control that...You can't control perceptions of you," Benedict Cumberbatch said in an interview in GQ UK's January 2014 issue, in which the "Sherlock" star graces the cover.

Over the summer, Cumberbatch was linked to many women, though none of them seemed to manifest into a true dating relationship. Cumberbatch was linked to Russian model and reality star Katia Elizarova, "Downton Abbey" star Laura Carmichael, "Dracula" actress Charlotte Asprey, and "Star Trek" co-star Alice Eve, Fashion & Style reports. He was spotted at intimate events with these women, but still appears to be single and not dating anyone at the moment.

In October, Empire magazine launched a poll to find the sexiest movie stars, and Benedict Cumberbatch came out on top. He beat other hotties like Henry Cavill, Ryan Gosling, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Pattinson, and Bradley Cooper.

Of Cumberbatch, Empire wrote, "You're damn right he's number one. While not as hyper-muscly or comically chiselled as others on this list, Cumberbatch specialises in characters that are far too clever, and far too cool, to take the rest of humanity seriously - and then he somehow makes us love him for it. It helps that, off-screen, he's still clever and insanely charismatic but quite a bit nicer than the characters he habitually plays." Empire named his role as John Harrison in "Star Trek" as his sexiest movie role.

In the GQ interview, Benedict Cumberbatch added that he doesn't want to be seen as "posh," and that he's usually not a fan of posh people: "All the posh-baiting that goes on... it's so predictable, so domestic, so dumb. I'm an upper middle-class kid. I know that's counted as posh, but then I know people who I would call posh, and I don't talk like them."
