Scandal Season 3 Spoilers: Shonda Rhimes Talks Torture Scene And Gay Shaming , Kerry Washington Pregnancy Cuts Down Episode Order!

As "Scandal" season 3 approaches its mid-season finale, spoilers regarding the length of the season have surfaced.

According to spoilers from TVLine, "Scandal" season 3 is being cut from 22 episodes to 18, presumably due to Kerry Washington's pregnancy.

Last month, "Scandal" star Kerry Washington revealed that she was expecting her first baby, and now it seems her alter ego Olivia Pope will not have a pregnancy storyline to coincide with the real-life event.

What this means is that after the mid-season finale next week, "Scandal" will return February 27 for an additional 8 episodes instead of 12.

Meanwhile, "Scandal" season 3 will approach the mid-season finale, and the previous episode left a lot of fans desiring spoilers regarding the fate of all the characters.

This might be particularly true for Quinn, who was tortured brutally by Huck, and is now on the verge of capturing Olivia's father.

"Quinn may have done lots of things, but suddenly it was a woman, bound on the floor - It was a white woman, bound on the floor, while a man of color is over her, pulling out her teeth, torturing her," admitted Shonda Rhimes to Vulture.

"The visual of that I had a really strong reaction to. Now, I often think that the things I have a strong reaction to are the things we should absolutely be doing, but I had a really hard time with it in the beginning."

During the "Scandal" interview, Shonda Rhimes also addressed Cyrus and James, and the gay shaming done by Cyrus.

"One of the things we were talking about in the room is, what are the politics of this thing that Cyrus is about to do? It is so dark. For Cyrus, he's always willing to go there. He's willing to go to the darkest places, the places that we, as politically correct people, would never go to. Cyrus just thinks of that as ammunition."

And what spoilers does Shonda Rhimes have about the "Scandal" season 3 mid-season finale?

"It's pretty shocking, but it's also going to change the game in the way all of our characters operate. We make some big, big moves so when we leave you at the hiatus, you're a little bit stunned," said Shonda Rhimes to Vulture.
