The TOP 30 Album Jackets of 2013 - Part 1

Whether it be mp3 or CD, the jacket cover stimulates the imagination of the listeners. The jacket especially is attractive in the information it provides to the buyer. That's why we've compiled a list of the top 28 jacket album covers of the year, plus 2 winners that top the list. The novelty and beauty of the jacket is in the design itself, and portrays the album's completeness and relevance to the songs contained within it. Last year the two winners were Malo's EP Malo Sings Baeho and Primary's single Primary and the Messengers Part 3.Let's take a look at this year's top jacket covers, and the 2 winning designs.

B.A.P. debuted last year with a rabbit on their jacket cover. Their August mini-album BADMAN was no different. Thanks to the songs included on the album such as "Badman" and "Excuse Me," the album had an aura of grandeur about it. Likewise, the album jacket bunny wore a mask, and had a weightier feel to it. It's apparent that the jacket is a gateway into the artist and album's identity. YB decided to go with a megaphone on its cover. Yoon Do Hyun appeared on television with a megaphone. The album Reel Impulse featured the song "PUSH OFF," in which one could distinctly hear a megaphone sound. YB is innovative even in its 9th album cover, and deserves to be recognized for it. W&JAS' mini album New Kids in Town was released in August, and portrayed an astronaut on its jacket. Who could have thought to put an astronaut on the cover of an album? It does remind one of Sandra Bullock's movie Gravity, which was released this year as well. Jazz pianist Kwak Yoon Chan's 5th album 49 featured the title song "Forty Nine" and the sketch on the cover is definitely eye-catching. It's a familiar image within an image of many circles of a similar hue, used to diagnose color-blindness. Brown Eyed Soul's Naul came up with this jacket design.

Lim Kim released quite a few albums this year, and even showed off her sexuality with her appearance on a cover wearing her underwear. However her most praiseworthy jacket cover is from her album A Voice, which included songs such as "Number 1," "Coloring,""Carroll's Pun," "All Right," and "Like You Know It All." Lim Kim proved her worth as a vocalist that has an excellent tone not unlike that of an instrument, and her album cover is indicative of that. The indie band Raspberry Field released their 1st full album Sweet & Bitter in January, and filled their jacket cover with concentric images. On it is a girl riding a small rocking horse, various elephants, a doll, a mailbox, a rabbit, and more. And there's an "Alice in the Wonderland" feel to it that just pulls you in. Dynamic Duo's 7th album, which was released in July, has a jacket cover that is as refreshing as the songs within it. It's as if you could hear the sound of waves crashing down. Let's not forget about Gil and Gary, who are two marching giants. Their romantic punch 2nd album Glam Slam was decorated in a comic-style drawing. It contained the photo of a smoking woman letting the smoke out through her nose. The song "TGIF" so perfectly goes with this woman who is most likely wearing a short skirt, if we could see the rest of her attire.

Vasco and Jay Kidman's project team Molotov released their 1st album Molotov Cocktail, and was the fruit of hardcore hip-hop. The songs "Slap!" "BooooM" and "Watch Out" are tracks that are sure to keep your speaker and subwoofers a-bumping. That's what hip-hop is all about. For a well-known group such as Brown Eyed Girls, who debuted a whopping 7 years ago, there is no need to plaster the members' faces all over the jacket. So they didn't. Instead, they picture a close-up of a woman wearing a lace apron for this single album Recipe. Busker Busker's 2nd album was released in September, and is reminiscent of their 1st album, which was released last March. If their 1st album was spring, then their 2nd album is autumn. It's appropriate for the new season in their music. When a necklace is placed on a woman's neck, it is only right that it be viewed from the back. Look at the raised curves of the neck. Had it not been for the jacket, would Salon de Tango have been able to portray their songs "The Salon Is Open," "Voyeur," and "Passionate Love" as well?
