Sophomore jinx is a term used to describe a hot rookie cooling down for their sophomore year. This has not been the case for sophomore idol groups B.A.P, VIXX, and EXO. In fact, their sophomore years have been even better than their rookie year. EXO has been the dominant idol force this year, while B.A.P has heated up both the Korean and Japanese charts this year. VIXX also made a significant stride since their debut last year, holding their own in a sea of idol groups that debut and flood the market. Sure, their debut was in 2012, but these three idol groups' year was 2013.

VIXX Will Improve Even More in 2014

While EXO and B.A.P debuted in much anticipation, the same cannot be said about VIXX. They released their first single "Super Hero" in the May of 2012 but failed to make any kind of splash. With so many idol groups coming out, it was hard to find VIXX interesting or noticeable.

However, when they changed their concept completely and returned as vampires with the single "On and On", the amount of attention in both media and among the fans were completely different. They were not only noticed, but fans were raving about them they were stamped as the "Costumed-idols" or "Cosplay Idols". Their different colored contact lenses coupled with their strange makeup instantly differentiated them from other idol groups. With the interest came also the noticing of their individual skills. As can be expected of their management company, Jellyfish Entertainment (which houses vocal maestros such as Sung Shi Kyung, Park Hyo Shin, SG Wannabe), they should tremendous vocal, rapping, and performance prowess. The singers Ken and Leo are excellent vocalists. Ravi is already on his way to becoming a top producer, producing songs for VIXX's album and writing lyrics for his rap parts. N, Hong Bin, and Hyuk are also on their way to becoming excellent vocalists themselves.

VIXX changed their concept with every new single. For "HYDE", they dressed up as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. For "Voodoo Doll", they dressed up as the voodoo curse dolls. They were able to change their concept rapidly and successfully with each new single. Their fan meetings top 20,000 in attendance with fans coming from all over the world. They were the first idol group that had to have their album showcasing at the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium because of the overwhelming number of attendees. Their first full album, "VOODOO", and its title song "Voodoo Doll" took the top spot in the weekend music programs and went high up on the charts as well.

If 2013 was the year of EXO and B.A.P, all signs point to 2014 being the year of VIXX.
