Dr. Dre Recalls Early Years Of Working With Eminem; Said Race Wasn't A Factor In Their Relationship

In modern hip-hop world, Eminem is arguably the biggest name. However, none of his accolades, as he always say, is possible if not for Dr. Dre. The 48-year old American producer and rapper is said to be the one who discovered Slim Shady.

Dr. Dre, whose real name is Andre Romelle Young, has a reputation of refusing to work with white rappers. He even had some pieces that talk about race. However, in the late 1990s, he came across Marshall Mathers and decided to work with the then unknown emcee from Detroit.

In an interview with Esquire magazine, Dr. Dre revealed that he and Eminem had an incredible chemistry when they first worked together, which lead to the creation of "The Slim Shady LP" that was released in 1999. The Aftermath Entertainment and Beats Electronics CEO also said that their difference in race was never a factor in their personal and professional relationship.

"The race factor was just a minuscule part of what I was doing with Eminem. It was really about the music and how well we worked together. When me and Marshall got in the studio, it instantly clicked. I put the track on, we had a little bit of idle chitchat, I put on the beat, and maybe five seconds in-I swear to God-he goes, "Hi, my name is." That was it. And it's still clicking. There's something about our thing that's just magical."

Dr. Dre has created a buzz for the past years through his new album Detox, a project that has been stalled for more than 10 years now. However, for fans, it is worth the wait, as they already got a glimpse of some of its tracks, including "I Need a Doctor" featuring Eminem and Skylar Grey.

As for his comeback, Dr. Dre said an anonymous psychic he met at a party made him re-think his plans.

"She did past-life regression. She started telling me things that I really believe. She's telling me that I've been back several times before. 'This is the last time you have to come back. You don't have to come back anymore if you don't want to," Dr. Dre said.
