Heather Mills, Paul McCartney's Ex-Wife, Accused of Lunging At Paralympic Official in a Fit of Rage; Dropped From Ski Team; Faces Fines

Heather Mills, who famously married and divorced the "cute" Beatle, Paul McCartney, is back in the headlines. No, Heather Mills isn't looking for more alimony, she was accused of abusing an official at the Paralympics.

According to published reports, Heather Mills lunged at a Paralympic official after she had to give up her attempt to qualify for Britain's skiing team in next year's games. The former Beatle wife reportedly screamed insults at the official. Mills began her skiing career shortly after divorcing Paul McCartney in 2008.

The International Paralympic Committee ruled that the governing body didn't ratify the new prosthetic Heather Mills is using. Mills was using the correct adaptive equipment, but she changed to a new leg and boot design created by the London Prosthetics Centre this summer. The IPC said Heather had to wear a cover over the new prosthetic, but Mills said it added "unnecessary weight" and caused "intolerable pain."

Mills planned on competing in Sochi. Mills' application for a spot on Britain's team was withdrawn. Heather Mills faces $1,370 in fines. The incident will be referred to the IPC's legal and ethics committee.

Craig Spence, a spokesman for IPC told The AP that Mills confronted ski committee head Sylvana Mestre at a team captains' meeting in a hotel in Austria. Spence said Mills "flew into a rage" and yelled "you don't know who I am, I'm going to make your life miserable."

In an IPC statement released Thursday, Craig Spence said "Sylvana is deeply upset, traumatized. She (Mills) verbally abused Sylvana, and started to push her. There were 10 witnesses in the room who saw what went on. Para-athletes are role models and an inspiration to billions of people around the world. We understand the pressure athletes are under in the lead-up to Sochi 2014 and that Heather has been working extremely hard to achieve her goal. However, there can be no excuse for such aggressive and intimidating behavior towards such a highly respected and experienced official within the Paralympic Movement."

Heather Mills is one of the most high-profile athletes who are trying to qualify for the Sochi Paralympics. She joined the British disability skiing team in 2010. Mills' performance improved over the last two years. The former Beatle wife who once said she knew deep, dark secrets about the bass-playing superstar won a silver medal this year in a World Cup adaptive slalom event in New Zealand.

Mills is a former model and is well-known charity campaigner. She is also a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. In 1993, Heather Mills was in an accident with a police motorbike. She suffered crushed ribs, a punctured lung and multiple fractures of the pelvis. Mills lost her left leg below the knee.

John Clarke, Heather Mills' coach, claims there is a "vendetta" against Milles and they plan to make a formal complaint about Mestre's behavior.

Heather Mills has not issued any statement yet.
