Producers Deny 'You Who Came From The Stars' Plagiarized Korean Comic Book 'Seol Hee'

The producers of the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) program "You Who Came From The Stars" are denying writer Kang Kyung Ok's allegation that they stole the concept of their television show from her comic book "Seol Hee."

Kang made the plagiarism accusation against "You Who Came From The Stars" in a statement posted to her blog on Friday.

A spokesperson for HB Entertainment, the production company behind the drama, believes that there was no merit to the plagiarism charge, according to the publication eNEWS.

"This is a total nonsense," the spokesperson said.

"The character from the comic book series is a human, but Do Min Joon from the drama is an alien. ['You Who Came From The Stars'] writer Park Ji Eun has never even read the comic book and she has been preparing for the drama for a long time."

The HB spokesperson added that they are still preparing their response, which could include a lawsuit against Kang.

"We will be releasing an official statement soon," the spokesperson said. "If this gets more serious, we might take this matter to the court for defamation."

On Friday, an SBS network representative told the Korean news outlet Newsen they were unfamiliar with the comic book, but are currently investigating the matter further.

"We had no idea that there was such a comic book," the SBS rep said. "We are in the process of checking up on more information regarding this situation."

"You Who Came From The Stars," which premiered on Wednesday night, is about an alien, (played by Kim Soo Hyun), that lands on earth in the year 1609, then stays on the planet for the next four centuries.

As you might expect, the extraterrestrial ends up in academia, scoring a job as a college professor where he falls in love with a famous actress, played by Jun Ji Hyun.

Kim Hyun Soo plays the actress as a young girl.
