AOA (aka Ace of Angels), is a unique idol girl group in Korea, which transforms into both a band group and a dance group according to their different promotion cycle. The band group consists of five members, which includes Jimin, Yuna, Mina, Youkyung and Choa and they focus on performing with instruments. The dance group consists of Jimin, Yuna, Choa, Chanmi, Hyejeong, Seolhyun and Mina.

The multi-talented idol group, who has debuted for over a year, is keen to show different sides of themselves. They ended "Confused" activities recently and are currently preparing for their next comeback currently slated for early 2014. We are fortunate to meet the girls during Sundown Festival 2013 in Singapore. During the interview, the girls of AOA discussed many different topics ranging from their recent comeback with the sexy concept for "Confused", how they think they have changed since debut to their opinions on their subunit. They also revealed their members' songwriting skills.

Amidst their busy day packed with continuous interviews and back-to-back schedules, the girls of AOA were candid and lively throughout the interview and have definitely impressed the KpopStarz team with their lovely personalities. Though it was a short interview, it certainly revealed their passion to perform as both a dance group and a band and hope to excel in both aspects. They then rounded off the interview with a special Christmas greeting and a message for the readers of Kpopstarz.

THE Q&A

Q: You’re back with a new sexy concept for “Confused”. How do you feel doing a sexy concept? Is it difficult?

A: While doing activities for “Confused,” although we are still immature, we’re trying to shake off our little girl image. In the beginning, we contemplated how we should try to take on the sexy image. We watched senior female artists such as Kim Hye Soo, Lee Hyori, and Um Jung Hwa, and carefully studied their sexy gaze and practiced imitating them. We will have a good time finishing up our activities, and in the future do our best to practice and work hard to show you a sexier image.

Q:Which member in the group is the sexiest?

A: Hyejeong, who is the tallest and has very pretty legs. And Yuna, who has a sexy gaze. And... we're all sexy.

Q: It has been more than 1 year since AOA debuted. How do you think you have changed since then?

A: For the past year... we haven't yet... there's so much more to show you. One year... well, how we've changed... is that we've become more mature. We've come back with a sexy image, and are a little more mature. In order to continue improving we are practicing as both a dance group and as a band, so you can look forward to both.

Q: Which is your most unforgettable performance?

Last time when we were in Singapore, it was extremely hot but still a lot of fans came to cheer us on. I think that's the most memorable performance. It was our first overseas performance, and we performed a lot of songs. It was our first concert-style performance singing so many songs, so we were very nervous and shy but it was an enjoyable stage

Q:What sides of AOA would you want your fans to see and remember AOA as?

We are a transformer group. We are performing as a dance group and as a band. We want to be remembered as a group that excels in both aspects. As you know, we are Ace of Angels, so we hope to be known as being angelic.

Q: Jimin, Choa, Mina, and Yuna, you are members of AOA Black. Describe the differences in performing in the subunit vs. performing in the _full group? Do you prefer to perform with instruments or without?

A: Since our trainee days we have always practiced both, and we've pursued both because we enjoy it. As a band, we're able to show our more artist side and perform music that we want to do. When we dance, we try to show off our bright, feminine, and charismatic sides.

Q: AOA is in the same company as FTISLAND and CNBLUE, and they have helped you in many ways. Who helped you the most and how? Who would you like to work with in the future?

Actually when we debuted, Yong Hwa (CNBLUE) gave us the song "Love Is Only You" as a gift. Not only that, we would love to receive more songs from FTISLAND as well. Even among our members, there are some great songwriters, such as Jimin, Yuna, Youkyung and Choa, so they can write songs as well. We want to make more songs and receive more songs.
