Profile Of A K-Pop Fan: 19-Year-Old Portuguese Student Andreia Silva On Why Big Bang And Mad Clown Are Her All-Time Favorites [EXCLUSIVE]

NAME: Andreia Filipa Jesus Silva

AGE: 19

PRESENT HOME: Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal

K-POP IN PORTUGAL: Although K-pop has made considerable international inroads in the past few years, Silva has yet to see it in her hometown. "Here in Portugal, the people here only listen the music of our culture or countries that speak our language," she said. "They listen to Brazilian music, African music and Portuguese music of course, but nothing like K-pop. I know a few people who like K-pop, but I can count them with my fingers. I think people here think too much about what other people say about them, so that's why I can't find other fans."

FAN CREDENTIALS: When it comes to K-pop, Silva isn't afraid to go the distance. "Last summer I traveled 150 miles, just to meet my friends who like K-pop," the college student and part-time nursing home employee recalled. "We had a little party where we played K-pop music and despite it being [a small gathering] it was the best party I've ever been to. I hope we have more parties like that one."

INTRO TO K-POP: "Two years ago, I started playing a Brazilian computer game named 'LoveRitmo' and there were a lot of K-pop songs in it," Silva explained. "I had never listened to that style of music, so I didn't pay that much attention. But the more songs I listened to, the more I started to like them. The first song that really moved me was 'Lucifer' from SHINee. So it's thanks to them that I love K-pop. After that, I wanted to know more about K-pop so I started looking artists up on Google and YouTube. Now, without at least 10 K-pop songs a day it seems I go crazy."

FAVORITE GROUP: Big Bang

WHY BIG BANG IS BEST: "I can't explain exactly why, I just know that I love their songs and I love them," she said. "I need to listen to them every single day."

BEST BIG BANG SONG: "Monster"

WHY:  "When I first listened to 'Monster,' I was really sad and it was this song who cheered me up," Silva recalled. "It talks about a love that people can forget as time passes by. Just because the people change, that doesn't mean the love can change too."

FAVORITE SOLO ARTIST: G-Dragon

FAVORITE G-DRAGON SONG: "1-Year Station"

ARTIST TO WATCH: Mad Clown

WHY: "I think we K-pop fans should listen to more Mad Clown," Silva said. "He has a lot of great songs, but my favorite is 'Stupid Love' [featuring Soyu from Sistar]. The fans I talk to don't seem to know him, so I hope they will listen to him."

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE: "I hope the K-pop movement continues with great songs and artists," she said. "And I hope someday to meet my favorite artists, or I really might die."
