Suzy, Sulli, and Hyeri - Overcoming Growing Pains of 20

Twenty is an age full of dreams, excitement, and pain. The same goes for idol stars that were born in 1994. (In Korea you are considered to be 1 year old when you are born, so they say they are 20 when they are 19.) There were good times, and mentally tough times.

Even among the many 1994-born idol stars, miss A's Suzy, f(x)'s Sulli, and Girl's Day's Hyeri surely encountered the growing pains of 20. But they didn't get frustrated. They were more faithful to their duties, and overcame their difficulties with confidence. That's why so much attention is focused on these 3 girl group members and their upcoming activities in 2014.

There are many similarities among the 3 girls for next year's activities. They each plan to stand their ground as singers and actors in 2014. There are even some that are currently excelling in those areas.

Suzy starred in MBC drama "Gu Family Book" alongside actor Sungjoon this past October. Korea's "first love" was also involved in a relationship rumor. However, Suzy denied all claims, and the rumors stopped there.

Twenty is an age when emotions are very unstable, and Suzy could have been extremely concerned with the relationship rumor. However she handled the matter very well. She participated in miss A's 2nd album and their activities in November, just 1 month after the rumor. She showed off her sexy and bright charms regardless.

In 2014 Suzy plans to continue pursuing her musical and acting activities. Her contract with current agency JYP Entertainment will expire in March of 2017, and the agency continues to show support for Suzy.

A JYP Entertainment rep stated, "Regarding acting, there's no casting she's been confirmed for. We've taken both movies and dramas into consideration when choosing projects, but currently we're looking more into movies. We're currently planning for her acting acitivites for next year."

In 2012 Suzy starred in Architecture 101 and successfully pulled off her role with her innocent smile, and earned the title of "Korea's first love." If she is cast for a movie role next year, we will have the opportunity to see her succeed in another movie work.

Girl group f(x) released their 2nd album this past July, with the title song "Rum Pum Pum Pum." The song took the number 1 spot on various music programs. Sulli was also involved in a relationship rumor, not unlike Suzy. Videos of Sulli with Dynamic Duo's Choiza were released, and she was the center of a relationship rumor for the first time in her life.

Both Sulli's and Choiza's side stated that there was no truth to the rumors, and that was that. However, the older "uncle" and male fans didn't let go so easily. Despite the agency's strong denials, the rumor carried on for a while.

Sulli didn't let that affect her at all. Even after the relationship rumor, Sulli actively participated in her movie shootings and other events, and was able to turn the hearts of fans back to her. Sulli also performed at the f(x) concert on December 24th and 25th at the Ilsan Kintex, and had a great time with her fans.

At 20 Sulli's had a lot of ups and downs. Next year Sulli plans to show a different side of her through her appearance in the movie Pirates.

Pirates is a blockbuster movie about pirates and sea bandits going after a whale. The production cost alone cost 10 billion Won (about 8.9 million US Dollars).

The movie has an all-star cast, including big names such as Son Ye Jin, Kim Nam Kil, Lee Kyung Young, and Yoo Hae Jin. Sulli will be starring as one of the members on Yeo Weol's (played by Son Ye Jin) team. Just knowing that the movie is about pirates has raised much expectation for Sulli's transformation in the movie.

Sulli revealed, "I wanted to do my best, but since I was standing alongside my superiors, I was really shaky and nervous. All throughout filming the seasoned actors and staff all took care of me. I received a lot of help, and am working very hard."

Sulli will also be continuing her activities with f(x) members in 2014 as well.

Another 1994-born girl group star is Girl's Day Hyeri. This past year she's loved and said farewell. In April she officially revealed her relationship with Tony An. Unfortunately in November, just 7 months later, she delivered the news of their break up. At 20 she essentially experienced both the exciting love aspect of a relationship and the sad farewell that comes with a breakup.

Even still, as a Girl's Day member Hyeri had hits such as "Expect," "Female President," and "Tell Me" and proved her popularity as a singer. After her breakup with Tony An, Hyeri challenged herself to attain her driver's license and passed, and showed a strong 20 year old's image.

As soon as the new year starts, Hyeri will go straight into her music activities and show off her growth as a singer. Girl's Day will be releasing their mini album on January 3rd.

Girl's Day spoke about their new song, saying "Girl's Day will show off their maturity that's one step up from 'Expect' and 'Female President.' Since all the members are now adults (Korea's adult age is 20, not 18), we will be showing off our femininity, expressed through song and dance."

There's expectation as to how Hyeri will comeback more mature and feminine in the coming year.

In 2013 Hyeri took a break from acting, but in the new year she has revealed plans to meet the viewers through a drama or a movie. Hyeri, like the others, expects to pursue a full range of activities in 2014.
