Top 5 Moments Of 2013 SBS Gayo Daejun

SBS Gayo Daejun always delivers some of the best performances of the numerous end of the year music programs. The four hour performance highlighted the top K-Pop acts of 2013 and featured numerous appearances by SM Entertainment's powerhouse male group, EXO. EXO members performed instrumentals for Girls Generation subunit TaeTiSeo (TTS), performed with label mates SHINee as part of a stage for Everybody, and also delivered a powerful stage of Growl. While CL and Lee Hyori's collaboration was much anticipated, many netizens commented on how CL dominated the performance to overshadow Lee Hyori. However, the highlight of the night was the star studded parodies of two of SBS' most popular dramas of 2013.

The Parodies Of 'The Heirs' And 'Master's Sun' Were Spot On

2013 SBS Gayo Daejun highlighted the powerhouse SBS dramas Master's Sun and The Heirs in order to illustrate the Music Makes Miracles theme. The 2013 SBS Gayo Daejun Friendship Project song entitled You Are A Miracle assembled 125 of the top performers in Korean music. You Are A Miracle resembles the We Are The World of K-Pop and was the plot device behind the Master's Sun and The Heirs parordies.

The parody was entitled The Miracle and featured SHINee's Taemin as Kim Tan, K.Will as Choi Young Do, and Minah of Girl's Day as Cha Eun Sang from The Heirs. 2PM's Wooyoung portrayed Joo Jоong Won and A Pink's Naeun was an excellent Tae Gong Shil from Master's Sun. Of the original casts of the programs, Seo In Guk, Kang Min Hyuk, Krystal, and Hyungsik made appearances. The drama parodies were chock full of K-Pop stars including Ladies Code and VIXX who played students at Jeguk High.

Audiences who ship the We Got Married relationship between Taemin and Na Eun were shocked by the on-screen chemistry between the SHINee member and Minah during the scenes from The Heirs. As the parody continued EXO's Luhan, followed by Trouble Maker and a cast of other stars made an appearance.

Girls Generation's TaeTiSeo Delivers A Jazzy Beyoncé Cover

Girls Generation's Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun were stunning as TaeTiSeo during their jazz age cover of Beyoncé's hit Crazy In Love. Members of EXO aided with instrumentals on the song including Chanyeol on drums. The performance was classic, unique, and one of the standouts of the evening. EXO was heavily featured throughout the night both in the drama parodies and in their appearances on their label mate's stages.

Dok2, DoubleK, and CNBLUE Rocked the House

Hip hop stages and collaborations are always a strong point for SBS Gayo Daejun. One of the best stages for 2013 Gayo Daejun was the performance delivered by Dok2, DoubleK, and CNBLUE. The members of CNBLUE provided instrumentals for Dok2 and Double K's rhymes then segued into an energetic performance of I'm Sorry. CNBLUE, who has been delivering their unique brand of K-Pop meets K-Rock throughout the world during their current tour, has definitely honed with skills in 2013.

Lee Hyori and CL Prove They are Both 'Bad Girls'

The much anticipated stage between Lee Hyori and 2NE1's CL was very much a duel to prove who has the baddest female in K-Pop. While Lee Hyori exhibited great beauty and fierceness, CL commanded the stage throughout most the performance. Her delivery of The Baddest Female was well received by the audience. However, the collaboration was viewed by many netizens as being lackluster by comparison of other stages that had occurred throughout the night.

GDYB Delivered a Strong Performance

As two of the final performers, Big Bang's G-Dragon and Taeyang brought down the house with their stages. In October 2013, G-Dragon hinted at the possibility of a new Big Bang subunit. If that subunit will be GDYB, the result will definitely exceed the expectations of fans. Taeyang performed his yet unreleased single 1AM which he also performed at his showcase in San Francisco . G-Dragon delivered an upbeat performance of Crooked followed by a joint stage of Ringa Linga, in which the Big Bang leader delivered an original rhyme. G-Dragon and Taeyang then performed a rousing performance of Bad Boy from 2012's Alive album.

2013 SBS Gayo Daejun was definitely an event which was not to be missed. While YG Entertainment artists dominated 2012 SBS Gayo Daejun, this year SM Entertainment took over the show. While Super Junior and TVXQ were not represented during the night, EXO were amongst the main stars of the night. Girls Generation capped off the night and SHINee, as well as f(x) delivered some of the most solid performances proving that 2013 was SM Entertainment's year to shine at SBS Gayo Daejun.
