Anderson Silva Injury Update: UFC Champion Posts Photo On Crutches; His Son Congratulates Weidman

@SpiderAnderson

I want to say thank you to all my fans and friends to support me at this moment,I wish a great and happy 2014 to all

This is what Anderson Silva posted on his twitter account after a successful operation on his leg that he injured during a rematch against Chris Weidman. The tweet came with a photo of him, all smiles together with his relatives.

Before the operation, Silva, who holds the longest title defense streak in UFC history at 16 victories, asked his doctors if he can still make a comeback. Dr. Steven Sanders, the UFC's orthopedic surgeon, said that it might take almost a year before he can return to training.

"My prognosis for healing is three to six months," Sanders said. "But there are also soft tissue components that have to heal. If I had to make a guess less than 48 hours from the operation, it would be the fracture healing in three to six months, and attempting to train, six to nine months."

While the medical experts are optimistic about Silva's MMA career, the fighter's teenage son doesn't want to see his father in the octagon again.

Speaking with Brazilian media outlet R7, Kalyl said that he wants to have more time with his dad. On the same interview, the young Silva also thanked Weidman who became the first to knock out the Spider in 39 MMA fights.

"All respect for Chris to go out there and fight like a champion. Congratulations, Chris. It's your turn to be a legend. All the enemies are celebrating Silva and do not come to see me, is not my fault. But I want to see you do what he does. I hope he retires and go home because I'm tired of watching my father train every day, be gone for two or three months ... and a broken leg happens ... And as always you are my champion father. And once again, good job Chris."
