NU'EST Aron Apologizes for Sexist Comments

NU'EST member Aron recently came under fire for a recent comment he made on a radio program that came off as sexist to many listeners and fans - he has now set out to explain his side of things.

The controversy began with the December 30 episode of Music Access, a radio show from South Korean English-language broadcaster Arirang.

In the midst of a conversation with Chocolat members Tia and Lori about the differences in friendships with guys versus girls, Aron responded with a series of comments that left many confused and upset.

When Tia and Lori remarked that they think having more guy friends than girl friends is better for most girls, the NU'EST member casually added, "That's why guys are, like, superior."

He continued, "To be fair guys, in my opinion, this is my opinion, guys, don't take it offensively or anything - but I think guys make better friends than girls."

The Chocolat members immediately agreed and the conversation progressed leading Aron to chime in with other comments about the differences between men and women adding that girls like to gossip and insinuating that perhaps gals were not the most trustworthy friends by explaining he had heard they often act like friends with other girls when they are not really.

On and on the conversation between the three young pop stars went for several more minutes and by the end of the radio show, netizens had gotten wind of it and the criticism began.

In an attempt to resolve tensions over the situation, on January 3 Aron took to his Instagram account to issue an apology.

Included as the caption for a picture of himself, Aron explained, "just postin a random photo to clear some things out. first off, I apologize to anyone who was offended by my comment. I am in no way, shape, or form a sexist, and never will be. I love women, all the power to you. but there are quite a few people misinterpreting what I meant and taking my words out of context. take the time to listen to the recordings. if you did, you'd probably know I was joking and that I was talkin about FRIENDSHIP, not sexism. like I said, those words weren't meant to hurt anyone or target a specific group/gender, and I'm sincerely sorry if they did. so quit the fightin, stop bashin on each other, and live your lives. cuhs imma keep livin mine. life is too short to be fussin over little things like this. just some of my insight. hope y'all have a good night ! #nuest #aron #apology #sorry #donttakemywordsoutofcontext #notasexistandneverwillbe [sic]."
