Aspen Plane Crash Happens In The Presence Of Hollywood Celebrities! Accident Claims Pilot’s Life, Injures Two Others

A fiery crash by a small plane on the runway of Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, which killed one person and injured two others, was personally witnessed by two celebrities who posted the event on their respective Twitter accounts.

Saturday Night Live alum Kevin Nealon wrote:  "Horrible plane crash here at Aspen airport. Exploded into flames as it was landing. I think it was a private jet."

Nealon also thought that nobody could have survived that crash.

Country Music Star Leann Rimes also chimed in: "So sad! Horrible plane crash we just saw happen at the Aspen airport," she tweeted.

Fortunately, the comedian was wrong as two of the co-pilots of the aircraft did survive the accident.

According to the Reuters report, Mexican pilot Sergio Carranza Brabata was killed when the small plane turned turtle and exploded around 12:20 p.m. One of the pilots survived but was reportedly in critical condition when rushed to the Aspen Valley Hospital.  The other pilot only sustained slight injuries and is now out of harm's way.

Alex Burchetta, Pitkin County Sheriff's Office director of operations, said that while the injuries were very traumatic, they were not thermal in nature. That means, "the fire never reached inside the cabin as far as we can tell."

The National Transportation Safety Board said the plane was a Canadair CL-600, considered to a mid-sized private jet. Spokesperson Peter Knudson said, as reported in UK's Independent, the plane was registered to the Bank of Utah in Salt Lake City. The bank has not released any official statement yet.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane was en route to Tucson, Arizona.

Aspen is a known ski resort which is a popular destination among celebrities. Just recently, momager Kris Jenner and the Kardashians spent the holidays in Aspen to get away from sunny Los Angeles.
