Shim 'MAX' Changmin To Depart 'Our Neighborhood's Variety and Sports' In Order To Promote New TVXQ Album 'Tense'

Shim Changmin of TVXQ, who also goes by the stage name MAX, announced on Tuesday that he will leave the sports talk show "Our Neighborhood's Variety and Sports" after filming a basketball special on Jan. 15, in order to promote the new TVXQ album "Tense," released on Monday.

In an official statement to eNEWS, the show's producers expressed their gratitude Changmin, who appeared in 43 episodes of "Our Neighborhood's Variety and Sports" since its debut back in April.

"We decided to have a beautiful farewell with Changmin after being with him since the first episode," the statement read.

"We want to thank Changmin for showing his passion and sweat through 'Our Neighborhood's Variety and Sports.' As he returns to his rightful place as a TVXQ member, we hope you will continue to love and support Changmin."

The 25-year-old singer's move appears to be practical, considering TVXQ is about to be in high demand with the smash success of  "Tense."

The album is currently the number one on the Korean music charts Olleh Music, Bugs, and Genie.

In a glowing review for Billboard.com, writer Jeff Benjamin gave "Tense" a glowing review, citing Changmin and his bandmate Jung Yunho for their performance on the lead-off single "Something."

"The lead single off "Tense" sees Yunho and Changmin diving into big band territory with this ambitious jazz-pop single," Benjamin writes.

"Blaring trumpets are mixed in with a modern pop beat as the boys unleash their signature harmonies, even dabbling in a little doo-wop. The most thrilling moment has to be in the bridge when the track unexpectedly changes course into  what is best described as bluesy dubstep."
