Paula Abdul Burns Tanning Company In Court; Negligence Caused Second and Third Degree Burns

Paula Abdul is hot on the trail of a tanning company who she claims burnt her with negligence. Paula Abdul is suing a tanning company for thigh burns she got from a tanning bed.

Former American Idol and X-Factor judge Paula Abdul filed a personal injury lawsuit for alleged burns she suffered in January of 2012. Paula, who had hits like "Straight Up," is seeking "an amount demanded exceeds $25,000." The suit states that Abdul incurred medical and incidental expenses. Paula Abdul is also suing for a loss of income. The papers do not give the actual amount.

In legal papers filed with the Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, Paula Abdul claims that on Jan. 20, 2012, she got a "highly effective weight control" infrared body wrap treatment from the company SlimStar. The website for UVASun says SlimStar "uses infrared heat that penetrates twice as deep as other heat sources to target toxins and cellulite trapped in pockets below the surface of the skin." SlimStar claims the treatment "may burn 1200 or more calories in just one 50-minute session." The website promises users "feel results from your very first session." The SunStar treatment costs $129 a session.

In the legal papers  Paula says the wrap was applied "negligently, carelessly, and recklessly, so as to cause [her] to suffer severe and painful burns over her body, with an especially severe second or third degree burn on a portion of [her] left thigh." Abdul claims she suffered "great mental, physical and nervous strain, pain and suffering, and loss of earnings potential."

Paula Abdul used to choreograph and taught Janet Jackson to dance.

SlimStar has given no comment.
