Celebrity Spotlight Interview with Rapper Rekstizzy

Who is Rekstizzy?

I wish I was a kpopstarz but I look like Kim Jong-un. So I'm a rapper. It's not bad though. Like, if I were to get caught in a scandal, I wouldn't have to worry about jeopardizing my career. In fact, I even believe it would thrive like pink blossoms during spring, as memories pass, sipping oolong tea with the stems pointing up for good fortune.

What's your day-to-day routine like?

Today I woke up thinking about eating a fat bowl of ramen. But then I got distracted from that because the thought inspired me to write a rhyme. After that, I ate a cliff bar, which was pretty good. The moral of the story, things don't go as planned, but you got to let yourself go with it. I spent one night watching a gang of 2NE1 videos even though I had things to do the next day. But I was hypnotized and even when I realized that, I kept watching. Everybody's attention spans are so short these days, kids are taking Adderall to stay focused, I got at least 15 tabs on my browser open at any given moment. But once in a while, when you find something to zero in on and just get lost in, pursue that.

What's the dream?

I want it all yo. I want all my friends to keep developing their skills so we could all benefit from that. Say my friend is trying to be the next top chef. He needs to do that so when he visits, he cooks that thing where my nostrils expand like crazy because I want to inhale ALL the aromas from the pot. On my end, I need to prosper so that not only do my friends have a soundtrack to live life to, but they also have an opportunity to name drop a celeb, get girls, or at least have like a semi-interesting conversation point during a date. It's all about being able to be there even when you’re not there. Most importantly though, I want to race yachts with women cheering me on, feeding me pizza.

You're a rap artist, a writer, and true lover of hip-hop. Is there something about you we'd be surprised to know?

I hope so.

Who is your favorite K-pop artist and why?

My favorite song from last year was "Black" by G-Dragon. It's weird how you can be apathetic to an artist and then you hear one song that changes all of that. "Bad Boy" was that song and really sold me on Big Bang and GD. "One of a Kind" was fire. "That XX" was fire. And like I said, "Black"…whew! It sounds like someone walking around in the rain, glaring at all the happy couples through the restaurant glass. Very Korean. I also like 2NE1, but their last few joints ain't really do it for me. "I Love You" and "I'm the Best" though? I levitated off the floor and drifted onto the top of a building when I heard that last one.

What's your opinion on hip-hop in Korea?

I think it's great. The culture is alive and well out there. A lot of interesting cats have been popping up. I'm a fan of JTONG who reminds me of Majin Buu's final form in appearance and style. I also like what the Hi-Lite Records guys are doing, shout out to them. Tiger JK and Yoon Mi-rae are consistently killing it too. It's alive and well, really. We can't forget T.O.P.'s indulgently bizarre "Doom Dada" either. That wasn't pop. I think with the accessibility of hip-hop through the Internet cats in Korea can do their homework and stay up on what the trends are while still developing their own native sound because the genre has existed in Korea for a while now. Salute, salute.

Any last words for our Kpopstarz readers?
