Girls' Generation Yuri Confirmed As MC For The '3rd Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards' on February 12

The third annual Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards are just around the corner and the ceremony's hosts ave just been confirmed to be Girls' Generation member Yuri and announcer-actor Oh Sang Jin.

According to a representative from the Gaon Chart on January 14, "Girls' Generation's Yuri has been appointed as the MC for the 3rd Gaon Chart K-Pop awards."

She will join already confirmed male MC Oh Sang Jin to lead viewers and participants through the various categories of awards.

Only about a month away, the 3rd Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards will honor the most successful and popular artists of 2013 and is scheduled for 7PM KST on February 12 at the Olympic Gymnastic Arena in Seoul.

With the tagline "Music is our life, memory, and history," the Gaon-run awards show returns for its third year to recognize the artists, songs, and albums that rattled the music charts in the past year.

Differing from other music awards shows, the Gaon Chart K-Pop Awards are much more focused on the songs and albums themselves, as opposed to being a popularity contest among singers. The finalists are based on the Gaon year-end chart performance according to the number of sales for each single and album.

It also includes awards for behind the scenes categories such as Producer of the Year, Composer/Lyricist of the Year, and Sound Engineer of the Year.

The awards show's official website is offered in both Korean and English and includes ticketing information for foreign fans wanted to attend the event next month.

The Gaon Music Chart is South Korea's leading music ranking and offers a variety of lists including real-time, daily, weekly, and monthly singles and albums charts. It began tracking music sales in Korea in 2010 to create a national chart similar to Billboard in the US and Japan's Oricon Chart.
