Han Hyo Joo's Former Manager Receives 6 Months In Jail After Threatening Actress's Father

The manager of 26-year-old South Korean movie star Han Hyo Joo has been sentenced to six months in prison after he and two associates allegedly attempted to blackmail the actress's father.

The prison sentence handed down in Seoul Central District Court on Tuesday had been commuted from two years, according the publication Star Today.

Back in November, Han's 30-year-old former manager, referred to in published reports as Mr. Lee, allegedly threatened to go public with 20 damning pictures from the actress's camera if her father didn't pay him $376,000.

In addition to Lee's six-month sentence, his 30-year-old associate Mr. Hwang reportedly was given eight-months in jail and Mr. Yoon, 37, received 10 months.

All three men will reportedly be on probation for two years.

According to an official spokesperson for the Seoul Central District Court, the reason for the different prison terms had to do with who actually had possessed the photos.

"Their crimes are counted for but consideration has been given to certain parts, such as possession of the original copies of pictures and mutual agreement of the victim's father with the charge," the spokesperson said.

Back in November, two weeks after the ordeal occurred, Han's management company BH Entertainment released a statement explaining what had transpired.

"On Nov. 4, an unidentified male made a threatening phone call to the father of our agency's actress Han Hyo Joo to demand money, saying 'do not tell Han Hyo Joo and deposit [$376,000],'" the BH Entertainment statement read, according to the website allkpop.

"Han Hyo Joo was consulted and she said, 'I never did anything that would cause a problem,' and so we decided it must be firmly handled as they seemed to be just using the simple reasoning that she's a public figure to blackmail so we reported it to the police right away. So since then her father has been cooperating with the police and the police were able to catch three people involved with the blackmail on Nov. 7."

According to the agency, the three aspiring blackmailers didn't have the photos they were threatening to release, committing the crime out of desperation.

"The arrested parties were all from Han Hyo Joo's previous agency that has gone out of business," the statement read.

"The three had gotten to the point where they didn't have money for even their cell phone bill, so stuck in this dire situation, they had attempted to blackmail Han Hyo Joo's father. Currently, they are in restricted confinement. It turned out that unlike their threats, the three did not even have any pictures that were out of the ordinary related to her private life."

Discovered by a talent scout in a teen beauty pageant in 2003, Han is best known for her roles in the films "Masquerade" and "Cold Eyes."
